Pro Mail in Voting talking point: "It works for the Military"

I have seen quite a few facebook posts and articles circulating recently citing the success of mail in voting/absentee voting in the military.
I served 10 years in the Army and never had a clean easy experience with this type of system. Have had ballots returned to my APO while deployed in Iraq. Same while in Germany.
Am I one of the few who have had bad experiences with this or can other vets and current service members here share their experiences/opinions?

My registration is scrutinized significantly when I vote absentee. I have to not only provide proof that I'm on active duty but also proof that I'm a Texas resident, then I have to hope that Dallas County doesn't screw it up.
As far as this idiotic talking point:
The Military makes up less than 1% of the U.S. Population.

Would love to know the percentage of overall votes that are absentee from military and compare that to any margins of error in the overall polls.
Seems like it would be relevant.
Completely changing the overall voting platform to one that has less representation than any margin of error seems foolish.

I recall the military ballots normally not making it in time to even be counted.
You do mail in, you can throw election night out. Try election MONTH.

Thanks. Yeah the process was similar for me as well. Home of residence was in Missouri.
My circle of Army buddies that I served with have expressed similar opinions about the process. I just found it strange that anyone would use the "success" of the absentee voting inside the military as pro mail in voting talking point.

There are just over 1,000,000 total on Active Duty.
That's less than a third of a percent of the eligible voting population.

And if Florida 2000 is any indication, there is a lot of frickery about with those ballots.
I seem to recall lots of military ballots being DQed due to a lack of postmark, for instance.

Yeah, that's illegal because the envelopes they come in specifically say NO POSTAGE REQUIRED IF MAILED IN THE UNITED STATES.

You think that stopped Dems when it looked like they could steal the election?

Not at all, I changed to Democrat in Nevada. I got all help I needed to vote for Romney.

Almost convinced they selectively count Military ballots, or not at all. I also have had ballots returned, once had a return stamped unknown address.

The three or four times I voted by absentee ballot in the military, I never had any idea if my ballot made it to where it needed to go or if my votes were ever counted. I'd much rather take my arse down to the local voting station and make sure my ballot is penciled in.

You vote where your state of legal residence is.
Some folks change theirs to the state they are stationed in and vote like civilians do.
I always voted absentee.

I really don't understand why the existing absentee ballot system doesn't already provide for mail-in voting for people who can't get around easily. Hell, I voted absentee twice (two elections lol) just because I was lazy.

This is what needs to be drummed into the idiots' heads. Hanging chads, dimpled chads, post marks, election volunteer staff overwhelmed, recount takes 6 months, it's midterms before the previous election ever gets sorted out... etc.

When I got back to the states I changed my residency to where I was stationed so I could vote in person. I wanted to make sure it counted.
