The US is, by far, the most most innovative, entrepreneurial, and charitable major country in the world. It also has massive social and economic problems that are generally not present in Singapore. Both can be true at the same time.
Show me the generationally drug-addled and government-dependent slums of Singapore.
And, I doubt you want to get into a dick-measuring contest with me about world travel.

Ill waive to you as we plunge into the cold ocean while you are sitting like a king in Singapore sipping cocktails.

Similar time. Colonial houses. Off of Stevens.
Did you know Jack? He was a friend. Hell he was most people's friend.

One of the black and whites?
I (and Mrs. Zwin) wanted the amenities of a condo.
Besides, I think we were a bit put off by houses when a friend described watching his neighbor’s cat get eaten by a python.
On the other hand, there seemed to be a pet king cobra on the grounds at the Claymore. Groundskeepers just kind of chuckled when it was brought to their attention.

Add country to that also and you've got it.

I know teachers who taught at Singapore American School when Michael Fay was a student there and this happened. They said that you would never find a young man more deserving of being caned than Michael Fay.

Have you been there?
I've been there a few times, and I'd a helluva lot rather live there than any large American city.
On the immigration card you fill out upon arrival, it says in red letters DEATH FOR DRUG TRAFFICKERS.
Another friend who taught at Singapore American School tells the story after an American student picked up for a Marijuana offense. Family gets a call from the police station around midnight. Cops tell the father...
"Mr. Johnson, your son has been detained for marijuana possession.
You may come down to the police station and pick him up.
There is a United Airlines flight to Los Angeles in the morning at 9:00 AM. You and your entire family will be on it."
Singapore doesn't frick around with crime. Hell yes, I'd rather live there than any large US city.

I’ve heard similar. The fact that SAS gets even that much leeway is an indication of how Singapore values the relationship.
Still, that $750,000 position is gone overnight.
(That number is a SWAG. When I lived there, my US base salary was somewhere in low 200’s. Add in car allowance of 2-3 K per month), 2K/mo cost of living allowance, trips home, $12K apartment, 30K X 2 for school, tax equalization, utilities, and random other stuff, a rule of thumb is that an expat costs 3-5 times his US base salary in a place like Singapore.).

That helps, but the bigger issue is a government that won’t put up with the agitation and media complicity we have here. They don’t play that game, at all.
Say what you want about that infringing on press or speech, but there is a LOT less FA there.
Lee Kwan Yew said that, after living through the Japanese occupation, he could never understand people who argue that the fear of negative consequences is not an effective deterrent for acting up.
That man was all about FAFO, but you don’t have to worry about personal safety there.

Because you seem to imply that being ethnically Chinese predisposes Singaporeans to be sympathetic to PRC. That is just not the case.
Singapore is one of the most capitalistic places on Earth. Anyone who thinks they are naturally sympathetic to the PRC is just fricking retarded. There's just no other way to put it.
Here's another thing American conservatives should like. This used to be the system, but it may have relaxed in recent years with the population declining...
Your first two kids...the state pays for everything. Health care, education, etc. If you live in government housing, it's for a family of four...max.
If you have a 3rd child, you pay for everything. Medical. Education. College. No government housing for you. And you sure as shite don't get food stamps.
In Singapore, the only people who have 3 kids are the people who can afford to have 3 kids. And they don't have to use forced abortions and sterilization like the Chinese.
Want to compare that to America?
