She won’t retire. She will be on the court till she dies.

SCOTUS was the number one reason he won last time, so not nominating someone will be a huge boost to his chances.

Very interesting take and I like it. I like it a lot. That may be the only way Trump could get centrist Americans to vote his way again .

FYI: Just so I don't get downvoted into obvlivion, I feel like I should state that I'm voting Trump no matter what. I just feel like independents aren't going to break his way in 2020 as much as they did last time around.

Trust me, Democrats remember Merrick Garland. What you saw with Kavanaugh was mostly pent up outrage holding over from Garland and knowing Gorsuch was too clean to attack.

ETA: To the poster above me, isn’t a little lame that you have to even add such a disclaimer to avoid being ignored and downvoted

She would rather die than retire and let Trump replace her spot.

I think we are going to see a real step-up by the Dems to impeach our Great Leader. Their heads would explode if we got another on the court.

The melt will be epic when she dies in 2020 and Trump replaces her in an election year.

RBG is a partisan hack who plays politics, so I see her holding off on retiring until EOY or beginning of next. Why? Because it will create the political trap of Trump to lure him into nominating a SCOTUS during an election year. The Dems will think they can play this card against him and the Repubs by highlighting their stance last election.

But the difference is the Senate is Republican with a Republican president.

Frankly you would need a constitutional amendment to ensure it sticks. And it is highly unlikely that you get enough states and the House to pull it off.

A law would be challenged, some jackoff in Hawaii would order it suspended indefinitely, then 9 new justices would be added before it could be resolved.

I too think she will retire then. But her thinking will be "If the democrats can't put forth a worthy candidate to beat Trump, then frick them, cause I'm retiring."

But hopefully she dies very soon, for the good of the country.

The problem is the Dems don't control the Senate. Cocaine Mitch controls the Senate.

I agree, but parsing these details won't happen in MSM. They will do a blanket comparison, and I think it won't matter for a thing. I do not think the average voter cared about the argument one way or the other. I think they cared about Trump vs Hillary/Obama nominating a SCOTUS, and they chose Trump. This is what matters
