And yet there are “conservatives” that can’t wait to “reach across the aisle” to help implement his stupidity.

Ironically, those same “conservatives” refused to support Trump building a wall, and also passed a veto proof “CARE” package.

“CARE” package

quote:

Well, thank you all very much.  This is a very important day.  I’ll sign the single-biggest economic relief package in American history and, I must say, or any other package, by the way.  It’s twice as large as any relief ever signed.  It’s $2.2 billion, but it actually goes up to 6.2 — potentially — billion dollars — trillion dollars.  So you’re talking about 6.2 trillion-dollar bill.  Nothing like that.  And this will deliver urgently needed relief to our nation’s families, workers, and businesses.  And that’s what this is all about.

So, that’s fantastic. But I want to thank Republicans and Democrats for coming together, setting aside their differences, and putting America first.

This legislation provides for direct payments to individuals and unprecedented support to small businesses. We’re going to keep our small businesses strong and our big businesses strong. And that’s keeping our country strong and our jobs strong.

Because everyone knows Biden is an idiot. There’s really nothing else to talk about where he’s concerned.

I’ve said repeatedly that Trump should have vetoed it.

No comment from you on that it was veto proof though.

When 90% of your posts here are anti Trump and you rarely if ever discuss Biden…why do you claim to be a conservative?

Is it because you voted for Biden in 2020

The people you speak of are mentally fragile, they are incapable of seeing past the next two weeks let alone the next 10 years.

Wrong again, as per your usual shortsighted-tunnel vision incapable of understanding the big picture. The way to make one party move more to the center is to throw support to the opposition party, possibly giving them the national vote or a mandate. This forces the losing party to move more moderate.

For example, if Trump were to win the national vote , especially if he were given a mandate, and the exit polling showed immigration as the No1 issue, Democrats would be forced to change their policy going forward.

No one gives a shite about your dumbass vote for Kanye.

No, constitutional principles would obviously be part of the foundational principles.

Good grief you guys are dumb when you trying to play "Gotcha!"

I even used the 1st Amendment as my example.

Exactly.

The reason you populists stay confused about conservatism is that you think a "conservative" is someone who hates Democrats and that's about as far as your smooth brains process.

A conservative is identified by whether he or she consistently acts in accordance with conservative principles.

Not by whether Democrats (or Republicans, for that matter) really hate them, or they really hate Democrats, or any of the stuff you guys think.

You guys are also hampered by your inability to think beyond binary false dilemmas.

Just because other Republicans are not conservative based on the definition above, that doesn't mean that Trump is.

Your syllogism is basically:

1. Most Republicans aren't conservative
2. Most Republicans don't like Trump
3. Therefore, Trump is a conservative

Surely you can see the logical problem with that.

It's no secret that conservatism is all but dead in America. Very few Republicans are actually conservative any more to any significant degree.

But I don't see how abandoning it even further in exchange for populism helps that problem.

Who gives a frick. It's kind of hard to pretend Republicans went against Trump on this. They didn't, because he fricking loved it. He wanted more of it. There isn't enough spin in the world to get you out of that.
