Given the choice, I'd never mail anything of urgency or importance with USPS, I wish others wouldn't as well.
You will not mail anything to the IRS or most other FedGov entities since they do not have a physical address that you can easily obtain...

If an item is shipped DHL or UPS it gets here on time or early. If it’s USPS and not next day shipping I add a week to 15 days to it.
When I asked the local post office about this they blame UPS. I pointed out that package in the UPS system don’t have this issue but packages that stay in the USPS do. It’s like the private companies that need to be dependable to stay in business don’t have this issue but the government run entity seems to. And that I can track UPS handling to the USPS without issue but as soon as the USPS is involved it goes to shat. Odd.

I've started hand delivering things when I can. Helps the relationship with the client, saves money, and I don't have to have a tracking number for something that is being delivered across town.

a line out the door every time ive been recently (at least 10 - 12 people) with 1 person working. its pathetic. apathy is the post office's biggest problem. no incentive to do anything. the musical chairs of post masters hasnt helped either. they have all sucked.

The middle aged white mailman always delivers my mail about noon. When he's off, I find my mail in the the mailbox the next morning. Jim also brings my mail inside my business. He goes the extra 10 feet.

Yep, ordered a keyboard that came from China...DHL shipping and it got to me in 3 days. LAX to Seattle to Spokane all in the same day. Meanwhile around the same time my employers mailed some docs with USPS and it took 7 weeks to go from Seattle to Spokane lol

Actual USPS vehicle. Let's see who dates themselves by getting the reference...

Post Office Stories - whatcha got
Ordered a few pieces for my underwater camera. Just new lenses and filters. Ordered them back in February. They shipped on time and then sat in my home town for 3 months until they were delivered yesterday finally.
This despite me calling, going up there to ask them to look for it, and having the company I ordered from contacting them. The USPS workers were rude, arrogant, and acted like they were owed something. On top of that you have about 5 behind the counter twiddling their thumbs.
frick the Government and everything those count touch.

The package I'm expecting is something for one of our kids' birthdays this week, from an aunt, something that belonged to his late uncle.
She mailed something for Christmas, and we got it in either late January or February. It's so dumb.
I get delays, but scanning stuff to pretend you attempted to deliver it is just trash.

Rural delivery here. My gripe is the delivery woman about half the time doesn't completely shut mailbox door and it eventually falls open and when it rains my mail gets wet. The kicker though was a few years back when I got my hardback copy of my Cabela's catalog. It doesn't fit in mailbox so instead of her driving up my driveway and getting out of her car and putting the catalog on a table next to the front door, she just drops it in the middle of the driveway about five feet from my garage door.

A coworker and I had an appointment at a post office to get some passport work done. The guy who did passports had his own desk away from the counter. He was sitting there, talking with two lady customers who were seated in his “office.” As we stood there, he kept asking questions about where they were going etc. The ladies kept glancing at us and finally told him that they thought he had other customers. He told them he didn’t have any other appointments so don’t worry. They got up and left and he finally acknowledged us. We had proof of our appointments and finally convinced him to help us. It was weird because we were the only ones waiting so he could have just helped us without an appointment.

Rural delivery here.
My parents live on a dirt road on a farm. They used to have a little rural post office, and the mail was always delivered on time.
A few years ago, they shut a ton of the rural offices down, and only have the larger regional locations. The current carrier will not even attempt to deliver the mail if it is raining. I shite you not. What you have is a typical gubment employee now, versus a carrier that also lived in the area and knows the people.

At my business we didn't have an outside drop, so there would be days that mail was late and they would skip us, I put up an outside drop box just to fix that. Well, in about two weeks we closed, I came in the next morning checked the box empty. I went to our security video's and saw him drive by around 6:00 and not stop. I have quit complaining to the local postal office and now every time I don't get my mail I write the "Postmaster General". I have written the PG about 5 or 6 times. Squeaky wheel gets the grease, I actually had a IG inspector show up about my complaints.

Neal Boortz told about his post office job between college and law school. He sorted mail and packages in a main office. After a few days the supervisor took him aside:
'Neal, you're working much faster than anyone else in the sorting office. That can become a problem. Slow down.'
He did.

You must have gotten our mail carrier. We caught her sitting at the end of the driveway. She'd blow the horn and immediately drive off. Then we'd find the note in the mailbox. Fortunately she went elsewhere.

My wife ordered some shoes that shipped from Georgia. The package arrived in Louisiana 2 days later. Then, back to Georgia. Then, back to Louisiana. And it went back and forth from GA to LA about 8 times before it was finally delivered about 3 weeks late.

Years ago my work kept a PO Box but discontinued it about ten years ago. I regularly would pick up mail, most of the mail was for another box about 400 numbers off. So I would just shove it through to the floor. One day a guy was back there shouting "Hey! What are you doing? Bring the mail to the front like you're supposed to" and I said "Come over here.... put the mail in the right fricking box number... like you're supposed to".
When the box was up for renewal, the price tripled and we just said frick it, not doing this again.
