Portugal's Parliament has approved, at committee stage, a bill banning face coverings in public spaces on the grounds of public security and public order. The proposal was backed by the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Chega, Liberal Initiative (IL), and CDS, while left-wing parties voted against it. Originally introduced by Chega as the "Burka Law," the legislation was later amended by the PSD to frame the ban as a public safety measure focused on enabling the identification of people in public places, rather than explicitly targeting Islamic face veils. The approved text would replace proposed prison sentences with administrative fines ranging from €150–€750 for negligent violations and €400–€3,000 for intentional violations. Supporters say the measure is necessary to strengthen public safety and make it easier to identify people in public, while Chega and Liberal Initiative argued it would also prevent face concealment for religious reasons. The bill must still complete the remaining stages of Portugal's legislative process before becoming law.

That's weird, I spent 10 days touring Portugal recently and didn't see one burka.
They still need to ban them.

Where? You’d see them in Lisbon for sure. And perhaps Porto. But not while wine tasting in the Duro valley.

How about banning muslims instead? That would make more sense.

I'm all for freedom of religion but this particular one seems to be an exception. There needs to be pushback until they decide to catch up to the civilized world

Correct. The burkha isn't about modesty, it's about control and submission. I would think leftist women would want to burn it like bras in the 60s and 70s.

I spent a week in Portugal two summers ago. I was in and around Porto, and I saw zero burkas. Of course I wasn’t going into Muslim neighborhoods.

Nope, leftist women in the west are openly embracing it (see AOC and other "feminists") while male progressives are all too happy to force them into subjugation.

This was freedom of religion for Christians. We used to not let Jews in either.
I don't think our founding fathers envisioned Biden using a shipping app to traffic people into the country.
