I think what's being questioned is why six men, three of them armed and apparently trained to handle violent confrontations, felt their lives were in danger because some crackhead had a screwdriver.

If you charge at a cop with a weapon you are going to get shot.
If you charge at anyone with a weapon they have the right to shoot you where you stand.
People don't have the time or luxury to download and analyze what someones true intentions are or what they are going through. shite happens way too fast in real life.

Same situation happened here about two years ago. A mentally f'd up guy had a pipe in his hand. Wouldn't put it down, was screaming crazy shite. Cop told him to drop the pipe and comply for a minute or two, then the guy started walking towards him and the cop dropped him. The city ended up paying the dead man's family.
I think the question raised earlier in this thread is an interesting one - if those were six civilians, all able-bodied and 3 armed, and one of them shot/killed the guy as shown in that video, would there be any charges? Might depend on the jurisdiction, but at a minimum it would bear some scrutiny.
