Pope Leo grew up in Chicago on the South Side. It's not realistic to expect him to be a MAGA Man like me.
We know that God MUST bless some "conflict". Was God neutral in the war against the Nazis? Probably not.

Obviously, the pope has never read The Old Testament.

Oh look, another muslim coddling marxist in a Pope hat.

OP and the pope are ignorant. How many times did the Kings of Israel ask God if they should “go up” into battle and were told to “go up” and destroy the enemy? How does the pope think that the Israeli’s captured Canaan? These are not Bible secrets and hidden codes.

quote:Or his own church's historical canon law and practice. Popes in the 12th and 13th centuries commanded trials for heretics that involved torture and execution at the hands of the state, which was obligated to act on behalf of the Church. The Inquisitions were formed primarily for this purpose.
Obviously, the pope has never read The Old Testament.
As others have stated, Augustine and Aquinas developed the concept of just war theory that have been foundational to moral conflicts ever since.
So yes, this Pope is out of alignment with both Scripture and history.

Yeah whatever - if the US hadn't intervened in WW2 the Vatican would likely look a bit different than it does now - and your message if you were allowed one - would be in German.

There are several conflicts in the bible where God blessed a certain side. God even prompted the conflict and aided in the victories. This Pope must not read the bible I guess.
Yes, you, JellyRoll, anonymous poster on an online message board, knows more about the Bible than the Pope lmfao

Bro the pope needs to stfu. If it wasn't for Crusaders. Everyone in Europe would be speaking Arabic. Pope needs to realize that Christianity isn't only a religion, but also a culture. Some would argue that Religion is the glue/gravity of culture. I guess Athiesm blesses western culture. smh

Bro needs to realize it’s not 1200 AD

Doesn’t this mean that Pope Leo is directly contradicting Pope Urban II who’s speech at the Council of Clermont in 1095 called all Christians in Europe to war against Muslims in order to reclaim the Holy Land, with a cry of “Deus vult!”.
So which Pope is right?

Me thinks he should brush up on his reading of the Bible.

Did he wipe the Crusades from history?

I love watching the religious who don’t matter debate about the only religion that does.
For guys who “don’t care and don’t respect” the pope you sure have a lot to say about the Catholics. Keep it up frickers.
Jesus was non violent, this isn’t the Old Testament.

I guess we are comparing 1000 to 2026
Not much has changed right? Technological advancements have been scarce since the crusades.

quote:Jesus had the capacity and moral justification for violence, but he wasn’t violent (generally) in His earthly ministry because of His mission to reveal Himself as the Messiah and to teach others the oath to eternal salvation. He did flip tables and drove out money changers from the temple with a whip.
Jesus was non violent, this isn’t the Old Testament.
We also need to remember that Jesus existed as God from all eternity, and that all three persons of the godhead share a singular divine will. That means that the God of the Old Testament is the same God of the New Testament, and that God is unchanging. We can’t say that the Father is violent but the Son isn’t. Both Father and Son are holy and just.
We see that point play out in the description of Jesus’ return in violent judgment of the wicked. Let’s see a few examples:
…when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed. -2 Thes 1:7-12
Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords. - Rev 19:11-16

Leo knows the Bible fine, like the last Pope he serves the globalists at best and Satan at worst above God.

Jesus overturning tables during the Temple cleansing is righteous anger and aggression. Safe to say God blessed this conflict.
