i'm not researching all those counties going back to, say roosevelt, but my guess would be this "fact" works from reagan forward (and again, even then, half the time they aren't 100%), but falls apart with carter, nixon, etc. they're nothing more than a mildly interesting coincidence

I'd guess the pattern with those counties was established when "Reagan democrats" fled democrats' anti-Americanism, but that's just a guess.
