Found this:

quote:

President Trump has said that shutting down the federal government in support of his demand for a southern border wall is a "total winner" for him politically, but according to a new poll, the only people who oppose compromise on the issue are his strongest backers.

They go on to say that out of the registered voters they polled, only 30% didn't want Trump to compromise. CNN is using this poll as evidence that "the overwhelming majority of Americans don't want border security." I say bullshite, that's not what the poll said.

Polls are only as good as the questions asked. In this instance, what does "compromise" mean? Does it mean no wall, we fire back up the government, and all go home? Or does it mean dems need to compromise and get serious about border security?

Secondly, there really is no "compromise" in this instance. There will either be a wall or there wont. It's a zero-sum game. There's nothing to compromise.

A better question to ask is: "Do you want a wall on the southern border" or "Do you want America to tighten border security?" I suspect if either of those questions were asked (especially the latter), far more than 30% would be in favor. Indeed, polls like this have been done in recent years and they all have shown that the majority of Americans want illegal immigration stopped.

But there's this from the poll that is concerning:

quote:

Voters who only somewhat approve of Trump were strongly in favor of compromise with 70 percent saying they wanted to see an accord reached while only 30 percent said they wanted policymakers to stick to principles.

Only 30% of respondents want politicians to stick to principles. We're fricked.

There has to be compromise between the two parties. It's the very definition of a democracy. The only issue that I have is that the Democrats don't seem to have the ability to negotiate. They have a "it's our way or no way" mentality. That accomplishes nothing

Trump giving up on a wall for nothing in return is not a compromise. It's a dumb interpretation from CNN.
