‘We need to pay more in taxes for our schools which will cause your property values to go up!’
One minute later:
‘We need to make sure more housing is affordable in our community!’
Is our society just folly?

Affordable housing means more section 8 for a swlect few. They need property taxes to continue to rise so home p3ices won't come down.

Furthermore, people have a lot more agency and freedom than they think they do. Politicians want everyone to believe we need them and we really don't.

A big part of the problem is that our Establishment Uniparty government is an Etatist Kleptocracy that funds and fully participates in a financial system of Crony Corporatocracy masquerading as "capitalism".
But the bigger issue lies in the fact that we keep spending more than we can gather in revenue. The Etatist Kleptocrats have everything to do with that, since they have installed the kickback systems to ensure that they skim off their share of tax money allocated to the systems.
The system is broken. Society is just held captive in subjugation.

They need property taxes to continue to rise because they can’t stop spending and over half of counties/parishes in the country would be bankrupt without them.

Has been for a long time. Whether it's food or land or homes, gasoline, stocks, bonds, whatever; Sellers want higher prices, buyers want lower prices and they all want the government and US Federal Reserve to manipulate the prices to their advantage. The folly is that the politicians and the Fed did exactly that and they've ruined us in the process.
