How does “the brothers are no longer suspects” fit into this story?
If they were in on the scam, shouldn’t they still be suspects?

They were initially considered suspects in the attack. Now that we know it was staged, they're no longer suspects.

Of course Smollett was lying the whole time.
You have to keep in mind that if a liberal was faced with a situation where telling the truth would completely serve their purpose they would still lie because they enjoy it.
