Never own your own home.

Incredible that the response from the “LEO” side in these situations is always, at best, that the cops should be fired.

Thoughts are as follows.
1) absolute incompetence and frankly negligence to roll up on a house in the middle of the night and start knocking when you aren’t even sure you’re at the correct place.
2) I did hear them announce who they were but being that it’s the middle of the night and you only announced initially, it’s easily conceivable that the homeowner didn’t hear you, particularly if he was sleeping.
3) the pointing the gun part may be how they somewhat wiggle off the hook but it’s hard to blame a man for protecting his home.
All in all, this seems like a case of gross incompetence and the officers/department who killed him should be civilly and criminally liable. Seems like a 2nd or 3rd degree murder case.

Hard to argue with that take. If you’re going to a house in the middle of the night like that, you should be beating on the door and very loudly, clearly as well as repeatedly announcing who you are.
Like I said earlier, I get the part about them “defending themselves” once a gun is pointed at them. Problem I have is that the only reason that situation occurred is because of multiple failures and god-awful judgements by the officers that set the table for the outcome.

yet they were just standing there wondering what address they were supposed to be at and what address they were actually at. They sounded like fricking domino's delivery instead of leos responding to a potentially violent situation.
C'mon, man!
Just think about it!

So let me understand. They are not sure what address they are at, BUT they are damn sure the guy opening the door was worth shooting instantly multiple times w/o any warnings?
Yes. But the important thing is, the boys in blue made it back home to spend time with their family.

I may have missed it but what I saw was they announced themselves but it was only once and early in their arrival. Entirely possible if the HO is in bed that he didn’t hear that initial announcement.

They may have gone to the wrong address, but the homeowner came out with a firearm pointed at them while they thought they were going to a domestic dispute call.
Did they have a right to invade his property?
Did they ever announce who they were when they were attempting a felony (unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling)?
Under what circumstance is it improper or wrong to investigate a crime being committed on your property with a weapon?

Gun owners need to educate themselves. Home owner should NEVER have opened the door at night, with a gun in plain view. That's ignorant. Do not open the door. At all. If you do need to open the door, holster the gun out of sight.

So they never announced it to the innocent homeowner directly?
You think announcing who they are minutes before when it's clear the homeowner didn't hear is enough?
Holy fricking shite
