This is not meant sarcastic, but have you heard of tongue ties? It’s when the frenulum (the piece of cartilage that connects the tongue to floor of mouth) is super tight and restricts the movement of the tongue. Nursing was impossible and she couldn’t even drink from a bottle without milk pouring out the sides of her mouth. She had to see a tethered oral tissue SLP at a specialty clinic until she was big enough to get it lasered. $$$$$$

"Tongue-tie"

Worst case, the frenulum extends nearly to the tip of the tongue, and has to be surgically addressed.

I believe I referenced such in my question to you.

Yikes! I can't imagine how hard that must have been to go through. It's nerve-wracking enough with a regular infant to make sure they're eating enough. Glad y'all got through it.

Does it have lasting repercussions or does it get fixed like nothing was ever wrong?

Narax, you're turning this into a Rand Paul - Markwayne Mullin moment. It gets way too personal when you start into the disabilities a family or mom has to deal with. If you've not been there yourself, you really should drop it.

Yea fair enough.

Not cartilage, just tissue. But apparently I had the same thing as an infant. My folks had to stand on the docs to address it. They did. It worked.

Yet in the OP you are stating that the cause is systemic racism.

Her speech is impacted. But her speech has always been so much better than my oldest that I didn’t even get her evaluated until she was almost 3. She’ll be 7 in a few months and her therapist says she’s close to “graduating.”

My oldest was totally unintelligible to most adults until halfway through kindergarten and that was after him having speech therapy twice a week since he was 18 months old.

We go to an old school pediatrics group and their attitude about tongue and lip ties was so flippant 9 years ago. But one of the doctors is married to a pediatric dentist and I think he convinced the others that it’s a legit thing. When the last baby was born, I got a referral when he was like 3 days old to a pediatric ENT. He had a tie too, but he’s all good now and he’s so chatty and relatively intelligible for a toddler. I don’t anticipate speech therapy in his future.

Then they are poorly educated. Candidly, I'd seek another group. I don't refer such opinions with so little information lightly. But ankyloglossia (the condition you are describing) is very well researched and detailed. Difficulty feeding is a huge red flag.

Open Enrollment is a first-come, first-served enrollment process. As soon as you pick a school your student is enrolled in that school. Priorities are only considered in the Main Round application process.

This describes their school. It’s a popular school and seats typically fill up in the main round.

87% of schools here are open-enrollment, as opposed to selective-enrollment. Magnet schools and schools one has to test into are selective-enrollment. LINK

You think you can google for 30 seconds and become an expert in the complicated charter system here. I’m not disclosing more information so that someone who clearly has a personal vendetta can get more information about where my kids go to school.

we bought our house before I knew anything about their school. My oldest got his IEP before I knew anything about his school’s admission preferences. The biggest advantage my kids have is having a mom who learned every painstaking detail about this complicated and evolving school system to ensure they get what they need and what they are legally entitled to.

There seem to be public charter schools like Willow/Franklin that are not majority black

These are selective-enrollment schools.

Who said majority black = low income, oh yea... you.

Link? I didn’t make a statement about income because I don’t know what the income levels of the families are. Race and socioeconomic status are deeply intertwined in this country, though.

This is how some parents get their kids prioritized. They make up a disability when, in fact, their child does not have one.

They cut kid's tongue ties at a month old now at pediatric dentist offices, the parents just have to make sure to do the stretches to make sure doesn't reattach
