I've been as poor as any client of yours—also lived in neighborhoods with drive-bys, etc.—and became wealthy enough to retire early, and the difference between the two lifestyles were entirely the difference in my choices, and there's not a single choice I made that turned my trajectory around that anybody of any race, creed, gender, ethic background, or sexual orientation couldn't have also made.
No doors were opened to me because I was white or male that wouldn't have been opened to anyone else (the opposite, in fact...white males were the last in line to be admitted/hired), and no one staked me in business or gave me anything to pull myself up out of that lifestyle. In fact, I had less help than most people do at that poverty level because even though I was eligible for just about every government program in existence, I didn't take any government handouts. I could have had SNAP, Medicaid, Section 8, whatever.
Now, I did have a high school diploma, and I DIDN'T have any children. But again, those are choices, and they don't have anything to do with me being male or white. Plenty of females also don't have children in their 20s...more than ever, in fact, and plenty of non-white people have high school diplomas.
But none of that has anything to do with your client, does it? All of that is just a smokescreen for you to rage behind, isn't it?
