So, 150 years ago the government owed everyone a horse?

What did people do before public transportation? The horror.

We should talk about poliboard pseudointellectualism.

much more rampant but thankfully more pathetic than irritating

Was he arrested for hate speech? Liberals are constantly being arrested for it and it’s not violent. That must be it, huh?

How can we have a discussion about this when you won't let us know what crime he committed due to what systemic issue?

Appears that you just want to lecture everyone instead of having a discussion.

Now you know how we feel reading your phony, virtue-signaling posts.

Seriously, woman. You blamed this board, MAGA, and Trump for some black kid in New Orleans who CHOSE to break the law. You're nothing but a virtue-signaling 2-bit phony.

Quote the posts of me doing this or admit that you’re incapable of comprehending written English OR that you’re simply unapologetically dishonest.

Thx.

How does his crime influence a discussion about people spending their energy discussing abstract events that don’t impact their daily lives beyond minor inconveniences versus devoting any energy to things that significantly impact the lives of people in their own communities?

How about putting your energy into stopping the glorification of thug life by movies, music, and social media?

That’s part of system.

Lots of people here spend significant time arguing the merits or pitfalls of distant events like the violence in Iran. We’re just so far removed from these events that we’re able to discuss them as observers rather than participants.

So you only care about things that effect you?
I hate to break it to you, but our brave soldiers are in harms way, and Iran has killed more than 30,000 of its own protesters, not to mention the torture and rape, just in the last few months.
Many of us know people deployed, good people with families.
Should Americans on the home front not discussed the Second World War?
quote:

I run a program that helps felons on probation/parole get their GEDs.

I'm going to be blunt.
I'm very doubtful this is true as written, it's likely you have volunteered with one, but unless you have switched jobs, its very unlikely you run one...
quote:

Today I found out one of my most consistent and promising students was arrested over the weekend. It’s just devastating.

Because this sounds like a mid level admin, not an organizational leader
quote:

It’s very easy and comfortable for people who aren’t around “a certain demographic”
See here, this vague attack could mean felons. Yes... about 8% of Americans have had a felony conviction. On a daily basis, most Americans will likely meet an ex felon.
Of course you could mean anything by this, you could be saying black, pretending that somehow people on this board aren't around black people... which makes even less sense.
You said this to slander others with something, but only you know what you mean by it.
quote:

to cast judgment from places of privilege

Are you assuming everyone here is rich? Or are you again slandering white people... Or will you adjust what you mean depending on how your argument goes...
quote:

And as much as this board loves to deny that systemic issues exist, the obstacles are systemic and they are not addressed by message board lectures about personal responsibility.
Wait isn't this what you are doing?
Of course I see why your parolee reoffended, you preach the world is against him and he has no personal responsibility. Had you tried this boards advice maybe he would not have committed an unnamed crime such as robbery.
quote:

When I told his case manager about the arrest, she started popping off about Trump and “how can we expect people in the streets to follow rules when the president doesn’t have to?” I just looked at her and said “Trump doesn’t have to face the consequences of his actions. My student does.

See right here, you support him doing the crime, you two are peas in a pod, an echo chamber. She has low expectations of the felon's morality and you are just angry that hes stupid.
He's not stupid, you just lowered the bar for him so low that he tripped over it.
quote:

Meanwhile, I am preemptively frustrated by the red tape I will have to clear just to go visit my student in jail. It’s depressing.

You really don't run that program organization...
quote:

BTW none of my student's charges or convictions are violent and he's still stuck in pre-trial detention because cash bail doesn't always make sense.

He's a flight risk, thats why he has bail.
You could post the bail for him.
quote:

You can post bail for someone else in New Orleans. Friends or family can act as a "surety" by paying the full amount in cash to the court, using property as collateral, or hiring a licensed bail bondsman for a non-refundable fee (usually 10-15%) to secure the release.

You don't care about or trust him that much if you wont put your own skin in the game.

Go bail him out, its going to cost you what, $2k?
Thats like 7 weeks of no housekeeper.
Unless you think he will run...

Isn't this all about you refusing to put your money where you mouth is?

Aren't you saying that you trust him as little as the courts, his caseworker, and this forum do?

Witch, you mentioned both this board, MAGA, and Trump in your OP, all of whom had NOTHING to do with some kid imbreaking the law.

Do you want to see a dishonest jerk? Go look in the mirror.

I'm sorry, but this is hilarious.

A felon does what a felon does, yet the OP and some random idiot blame Trump for the actions of the felon.

And then gets 13 pages of attention for this stupidity.

The mind of the progressive feminist is a sight to behold.

So you can prove Trump’s many felony convictions are diffe(R)ent?

Why go there?

Trump was the unquestionable victim of Beria tutees. He was targeted first, and then charges were fitted to him. It was Banana Republic stuff, and an unwashable stain forever on our legal system.

If you're contending the legal system similarly treated your student unfairly, draw that comparison. SFP makes that case regarding the US legal system quite often.

Regarding systemic issues, IMO root cause tracks straight to LBJ's "War on Poverty," and a secondary disregard of self-responsibility.

Unfortunately regarding your efforts, owning decisions in terms of predictable ramifications is an obligatory starting point. However bad, however unfair the milieu, self-responsibility is the singular ticket to best outcome. Playing into the social injustice angle at the expense of even minor de-emphasis of the role of personal responsibility may not get your students where you'd like them to be.

But don't you see? Trump wouldn't have to worry about bail for these made up fantasies in their heads, but it is YOU, poliboard poster, that is also at fault because you support the monster in their fairy tales.

This is like a Handmaid's Tale for Louisiana Prisoners.
