Pentagon warns China is an even bigger threat than we thought

So this came from a Pentagon source. Russia was saber rattling last week. My question is..
How big of a step has China really taken and, what has the US done in response to these threats? How do we compare? A military discussion would be appreciated.

Warnings of regional threats have largely focused on North Korea’s nuclear missile programs, and Russia’s recent unveiling of a heap of deadly new weapons. But a top Pentagon official has just issued a new warning: China is creating advanced futuristic weapons capable of wiping out the west’s current military technology.
quote:
“China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is developing and fielding numerous advanced, long-range land-attack and anti-ship cruise missiles, some capable of reaching supersonic speeds, operated from ground, air, ship, and submarine platforms,” he said. He said the rising superpower is also working on a bomber with a nuclear mission, which would give Beijing a nuclear triad of land, air and sea-based nuclear weapon systems.

But according to Ashley, the threat China poses is just as dire. He warned its military is developing capabilities to “dissuade, deter or defeat” any potential intervention from a third-party nation.

I really do believe in our dear leader, but I don't want to find this out.
A war with China is one where we all lose.

We can wait china out
A. They are old (one child policy and what not)
B. They are turning back to the old communist ways
We should remove the chains and let the free market roll. We'll put Russia and China in the rear view in a decade

They may be developing some badass equipment but their grounds troops are largely untested. We'd kick their arse in a ground war and YES I know they have a large Army.

They don't want war either, they just want a military powerful enough to discourage the US from intervening in their upcoming land(ocean) grabs for resources.
We will continue to do FONOPS, and they won't prevent that. But I doubt we interfere when they start drilling in others Economic Zones. It's coming.

Will the US continue to allow them to build islands in international waters?
also,
How does our military compare to theirs?

The so called "one-child" rule has been out for more than 5 years.

NK fear mongering fails so...oh yea the Red Menace lets see if that will stick. ISIS failed. Syria failed. Russia failed. NK failed.
And around we go.
And around we go.

quote:Its more than one step. And they’re huge steps at that. China will outclass our military in 15 years or less.
How big of a step has China really taken

Russia from an economic stand point is weak. Terrible GDP and standard of living there sucks. China is the only real threat

Yep. They are good for projecting power - which is all they are after so they can drill. I don't think we care about that as long as we maintain FONOPS.
In an actual war, those islands are difficult to defend and actually become a liability.

And they think we should ban guns.

Yeah we think in term of election cycles. They think in terms of generations.

I agree with you as it stands right now. But when we factor in their soon to be fully implemented citizen score system alongside the recent move to remove presidential term limits, all of the pieces are being put into place for an effective modern dictatorship built on intense nationalist pride. When that’s combined with a world class military, this country is as likely as any other to start the next world war in a few decades.

Yeah, sort of strikes me as the 21st century version of the Maginot Line.

Communism is not the long game, are you serious? The free market is the only weapon we need, we just need to use it. Communism is very tough to beat in a war but it simply can not last economically

They can plan 1000 years out. Economically speaking communism can not and will not last.
