True, but the US isn't some free market haven.

It's these kind of vague, meaningless headlines that piss me off. Bigger threat in what sense? Virtually anything is a lethal threat to US foreign policy objectives, because US FP objectives are either poorly defined and littered with platitudes about "national interest" , or hyper focused on unimportant tactical level issues in an effort to solve high level, strategic problems.

It's a complete joke what passes for strategery in the US, and that includes virtually every well known FP "expert".

This can't be repeated enough. A better strategy in terms of foreign policy would be to invest in infrastructure and trade, and build allies through consistent investment, as well as target isolated countries through trade so the population will liberalize. I'm not suggesting it's a perfect strategy, but it's better than what we put out, which is frankly nonsensical.

I would be highly disappointed if this is some kind of a shock to the joint chiefs and President. Who did not see China building up their military, and quickly? This smells like a "please give us funding!" report.

This is what I thought as well. Also wanted to read responses regardless. Love military discussions.

Have you not been paying attention to the last 3 months. They are headed back in that direction in a hurry

If thats the case we won't have to worry about them being a economic power for long.

People do not realize how far behind Russia is. It is total horse and pony show on the international stage. They project strength but have nothing to really back it up. They rely heavily on O&G and do not have much diversity economically.

Bogeyman is Russia, but they are actually much more concerned about china. Just cannot be stating that in order to maintain a friendly relationship with our biggest trading partner

Still can't believe USA and other world leaders sat by and did nothing while China built military island after island under Obama's watch.

Shoot, you'd think the environmental damage alone (Reefs) would've gotten some kind of action from Obama's administration!!!

Do what, exactly? What exactly is happening, and what exactly should the US do about it. Please be specific. Thank you.

How big of a step has China really taken

The biggest step they’ve taken in my lifetime is when Bill Clinton allowed their spies to waltz into our skunkworks facilities and steal all of our ICBM technology. That gave them the knowledge they needed to become a world power. Then NAFTA gave them the economic means to put that knowledge to practical use.

Theme of the story is: China is a beast we helped create.

Now, Hillary sold our biggest uranium mines to Russia, and Barry hand-delivered BILLIONS in cash to our peaceful Islam brothers who are the most immediate threat to our security. Meanwhile, CNN and MSNBC are trying to justify libs push in taking civilians’ best way to defend themselves.

Sounds like a joke if it wasn’t all too real... that shiver in our spine and knot in our stomach is the direct result of liberalism and “social justice” cancer in our country.... all brought to you courtesy of the “Democratic” party, folks.

Get woke, America. And thank God for Trump and people like him. They ain’t perfect, but they’re a far sight better than what we’ve had recently.

You do realize that a trade war has the potential to materialize into an actual war right?

Military comparisons aside, our annual trade deficit with China more than underwrites their annual defense budget. Globalist outsourcers who would sell out their country for 30 pieces of silver will tell you that is a good thing.

Those of you who think those islands are a liability muat thing that getting rid of Guam and Pearl Harbor are good things?
