Deputy Defense Press Secretary Sabrina Singh revealed to reporters on Thursday the Pentagon was taking weapons from its stockpiles in Israel and South Korea to meet weapons demand in Ukraine’s war with Russia.

“We are supplying Ukraine pretty regularly with different ammunitions, materials, capabilities and equipment, and part of that is making sure that we can do so quickly. And we have been working with [Republic of Korea] and Israel when it comes to withdrawing from our stocks and communicating that with them,” Deputy Defense Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said.

On whether it meant the U.S. was running low on weapons stockpiles at home, she responded, “I wouldn’t say that. I mean, the Secretary has always said we’re not going to drop below our readiness levels. … We have to go to other sources, other places to make sure that Ukraine has what it needs and to also be able to backfill our own stocks and work on backfilling partners and allies.”

The New York Times reported two days before her remarks that the Pentagon was tapping into its stockpiles in Israel “to help meet Ukraine’s dire need for artillery shells in the war with Ukraine.” The stockpile is for Pentagon to use in Middle East conflicts, and also for Israel to access in emergencies, the paper reported.

The Times outlined:

With stockpiles in the United States strained and American arms makers not yet able to keep up with the pace of Ukraine’s battlefield operations, the Pentagon has turned to two alternative supplies of shells to bridge the gap: one in South Korea and the one in Israel, whose use in the Ukraine war has not been previously reported.

Seems reasonable using some of OUR munitions and weapons in Korea and Israel serve a better use in Ukraine than sitting in those countries.

Weak people do weak things.

Letting the world know that you're not prepared is weak.

What a shite show.

Biden should ask Afghanistan for our weapons back so he can send them to Ukraine.

While simultaneously weakening our own military capabilities not only at home but around the world. China, North Korea, and Iran are all loving this.

Yea its too bad we won't have these artillery shells to drop on Russia when the war starts because we sent them all to be dropped on Russia.

There is still a warehouse full of M1 Garands sitting in S. Korea. They were to be brought back under the CMP, Jug Ears nixed that because nobody needs springing clips or something just as reasonable.

I wish Biden would use the stockpile he left in Afghanistan, first.

You said we are reducing our combat readiness around the world, however these shells are being dropped on the greatest current threat that exists, in the same theatre where they would actually be used if that combat readiness came to matter. The only difference is that US sons aren't dying shooting them.

We aren't shelling China with artillery when they come across the Taiwan strait; and if you think Iran is going to beat back the west because we used old stockpiles of artillery shells in Israel, you are insane. N Korea's threat is nukes; I dont see artillery shells being make or break if we have conflict with N.Korea, outside of the nukes, Skorea could take them without our help. So Russia is easily and by far the biggest threat with relevance to artillery shell stockpiles.

Whether this war is warranted or not, you are commenting on combat readiness, against who? The people we are using the stockpile for. This argument just doesn't make sense to me. The argument that the war shouldnt be occuring in the first place is valid and needs to be argued; but if we are worried about combat readiness, we should be giving ukraine whatever they need since they are fighting our threat for us. I mean; unless you think aliens are about to appear.

In theory, Israel uses as they desire. We have a special relationship with our special friends.
