That 2011 map is absolute garbage.

If there is a provision for it in the Pennsylvania constitution, then yes.

GERRYMANDERING!!! - I hate it.

I like the "bad for GOP' map better than the 'GOP map" = I fundamentally hate all artificial groupings made for the purpose of political advantage.

It the GOP has built its majority in congress based on such manipulations, then we don't deserve it.

I'm as conservative as they get, but even I fricking hate gerrymandering. The redrawn map looks much more balanced than the one the GOP drew. I wish gerrymandering ended completely.

What’s funny is Gerry Mandering is required in some states and banned in others

Now THAT should never be allowed to happen. If they are here illegally they should not benefit by having more representation that is dedicated to bringing in more illegals!!!

I'd even support gerrymandering to carve out that kind of inherent dysfunction.

True dat - getting rid of gerrymandering would just about gut the CBC.

I also believe that the SCOTUS should be the only one who should be able to over throw drawn congressional districts.

People think politics can be removed from this process and it’s impossible unfortunately.

CNN is saying it changes nothing. But can we believe their reporting as fact; or are they covering for democrats because they have no other way to win but to redistrict? Recall that the GOPe redistricted out Allen West in Florida.

I don’t know much about the senate, the the house is turning blue.

I don't think so. People vote with their wallets, if the Republicans can keep putting cold hard cash in bank accounts across the country, we could see an even bigger majority.

Even though its the state legislature that draws the districts?

"It remedies the outrageous gerrymander of 2011, and that's the important thing, that the gerrymander be over," said David Landau, the Democratic Party chairman of Delaware County, which was ground zero for the "Goofy Kicking Donald Duck" district. "All that zigging and zagging is all gone, and it makes Delaware County a competitive seat now."

Republican lawmakers are expected to quickly challenge the map in federal court, arguing that legislatures and governors, not courts, have the constitutional responsibility to draw congressional maps.

Mark Harris, a Pittsburgh-based GOP campaign consultant, echoed the reaction of Republicans in bashing the new product.

"It's a straight Democratic gerrymander by a Democratic Supreme Court to help Democrats," Harris said.

Meanwhile, sitting congressmen, dozens of would-be candidates and millions of voters have to sort out which district they live in barely a month before the candidates' deadline to submit paperwork to run. Petitions are due March 20, a two-week delay to accommodate the redrawing process.

Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf, who had backed the court's decision to throw out the 6-year-old map, called the court's map an "effort to remedy Pennsylvania's unfair and unequal congressional elections." He said his focus would become ensuring that his administration update the state elections bureau's systems and ensure processes are in place to help candidates.

So, the democrats lose and suddenly say that districting is set up for a republican win? I think their Philly/Pitt pizza for the college campus to go vote, busing in people finally failed. So they are trying to steal PA back.

The working class are going no where.

There really is no excuse for it. Legislate a certain percentage of the population that must be represented by a district, plug the population totals and a map into a computer, let it draw the most even lines possible.

Voting districts should look like a jigsaw puzzle not a Jackson Pollack.

It’s different in every state and it directly affects congress. You have far too many activist Judges on both sides now and they are willing to let their political ideology hijack the laws.

The one group who will never, ever offer a public opinion of gerrymandering is the Congressional Black Caucus, because 30-50% of them might get kicked out on their arse if their map got redrawn.

The SCOTUS has already declined to take up this PA case because it was ruled on based on state law.

From what I understand, yes. The Court ordered the state legislature to re-draw them, but the Republican-led Senate refused. Court in their order told them if they didn't, the Court would do it for them. State Repubicans petitioned the US Supreme Court, but they told them it was a state issue and they weren't touching it.

I may be off just a bit there, but that is the gist of it. Republicans are just trying to run out the clock with the upcoming midterms.
