Pelosi Sells $GOOGL Right Before DOJ Files Lawsuit
Shares are down 4% on the news

Another day, another questionable, perfectly timed trade by the Queen herself, Nancy Pelosi. Remember when she sold 30,000 shares of $GOOGL that totaled up to $3M? Well, news broke yesterday that the DOJ has opened up a formal lawsuit against the tech giant claiming it has a monopoly via its “Ad Technology Services”.

The lawsuit alleges that Google’s online advertising tools not only prohibit competitors from entering the space but also blocks publishers from monetizing their own content. The DOJ goes on to say that Google knowingly uses its monopoly power to create this advantage and therefore must divest their tools to continue in their ads business.

So what does this mean for the stock? Well the short answer is: it’s not great, but not the end of the world. In 2021, Google’s ad search revenue accounted for $149B or 58% of their entire revenue for the year. Since the DOJ seems to be specifically targeting this part of their business, it definitely could hinder their revenue growth moving forward. Even if the lawsuit fails, $GOOGL has been put on notice and therefore will be more cautious moving forward with their goals and products to ensure nothing looks too “monopolistic”.

Now onto Pelosi. As a reminder, last month Nancy Pelosi sold the majority of her Google shares three separate times.

12/20/22 - Sold 10,000 shares at $89/share

12/21/22 - Sold 10,000 shares at $89.50/share

12/28/22 - Sold 10,000 shares at $86/share

Her Google position now makes up ~4% of her entire portfolio and is currently trading ~$95/share. Now did she know this lawsuit was coming beforehand and that’s why she sold? Maybe. Regardless, we wanted to share the info here. I’ll be keeping an eye on $GOOGL over the next few months and because of this new threat to the stock, our team will write up an analysis on what we believe will happen to Google moving forward.

Cheers everyone!...

Impeccable timing...

They’ve gotten away with everything so they don’t even try to hide their corruption.

Rules for thee but not for me.

Uhm - she sold 5% - 10% below where the stock currently trades after the DOJ announcement.

Are you sure this is the “gotcha” you think it is?

Have you looked at her lately when she appears in public? I wouldn't talk Elon's Portfolio if I had to take her state of mind with it. Oh well, we'll see how "for the kids" works with the Good Lord's Judgment; that's all that really matters once one's time in the sun is over.

Interesting that it was tiered and not all at once. Maybe they thought the market would would react worse than it did?

I agree though. This isn't as egregious are stated based on the info we have.

I want to set up a "Pelosi" account and just mirror all their trades and see how it goes.

And if a private citizen sold their shares, and the next day the Department of Justice came forth with a lawsuit against Google, do you think they'd be treated the same?

Your protection of the rapists/pedophiles that use our tax money to get rich is disgusting.

The market is crazy and prices are manipulated. The market makers will pin a price sideways or run it up/down to burn option values.

The news came out and retail traders loaded up on puts…. I didn’t buy any bc I knew they’d run it up to destroy those options. Same with earning reports… They can have a great ER released and the price drops bc so many people bought call options.

None of this changes the fact that Pelosi sold bf the news came out. She couldn’t have known it’d go up on negative news.

60 Minutes and Steve Croft were all over her @ss twenty years ago for this exact stuff..Stock Act..etc..

Back when 60 Minutes used to feign fairness to both sides, and/or to represent the public's curiosity.

Now, just imagine being an average alphabet agency @sshole having to watch this go unchecked due to 7th floor politics of a few political appointees co-opting the levers of power. Your career and purpose..but masturbatory.

It wasn’t the next day - it was a month later - but you’re right, I stepped out of the echo chamber for a moment - my bad.

They have this already. The problem is that by the time they have to make this public, the stock has usually made its move. They always buy it at a lower price and sold at the peaks.

Exactly. Insider trading is illegal. It doesn't matter if you made money on the trading or not. That isn't relevant.

That doesn’t change whether it was insider trading. She is exempt, of course, so it doesn’t really matter.
