This is an example of a government agency unilaterally make a huge change with zero legislative control;
NHTSA has announced that it will push required average fuel-economy figures to 49 mpg by 2029, but that doesn't mean your future new vehicle will do anywhere near that number.
According to NHTSA, the rule change will lead to price increases on new 2029 model-year vehicles by about $960, but the overall fuel savings from the improved fuel economy would be $1280 (which will vary, of course, depending on type of vehicle). Final picture: new cars could cost about $320 less to buy and own at the end of the decade.
Another way to think about it, as described by Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, is that if you’re filling up four times a month today, you’d only have to stop at a gas station three times a month if you’re driving one of these more-efficient vehicles.
None of the fuel economy standards increases over the years have been legislated. They have been implemented by government bureaucrats.

Yall are getting me overhyped for this. I might have reverse my thought on Trump's 'Drain the Swamp' claims if this actually comes through.

This case will be decided by the end of June? What a month! I have pride this month. it truly is pride month!
the case was argued back in February (the audio from the oral arguments are somewhere online in its entirety and likely is about 2 hours-ish long)
the opinion has to be out by the end of Thursday as Thursday is the last day of this current session... and tomorrow is currently the only opinion day on the calendar
could they not release it tomorrow and then make Thursday an opinion day? sure... but we won't know until they make their move

Yeah, I saw the OP Twitter quote reposted on Truth Social the other day as well but didn’t create a thread on it here because it seemed to good to be true - would be phenomenal/ fricking awesome if it really happened. Guess we’ll find out soon enough.

I want to buy a car, not an EPA SJW badge.

Congress delegates because they don’t want to be held accountable by voters. DC is filled with pure scum. I hope they strike this mother fricker down. LFG

Would this end mask mandates as well?
Mask mandates carry no force of law, as it is. They stopped when people began telling them to frick off, en masse.

Kagan said that?
She was being snarky, but the spirit of her statement was dead-on factual.

If there a dozen righteous men & women among that 535-deep pit of vipers, I'd be shocked.

Do we have a time for these rulings?

starts at 9 AM central time... opinions come out every 10 minutes
so if SCOTUS releases all 4 remaining opinions tomorrow... that means we'll get opinions at 9, 9:10, 9:20, & 9:30 AM
ETA: also... the opinions are released by Justice seniority... meaning if they want to release an opinion by Amy Coney Barrett... her opinions will be the 1st opinions released
the Chief Justice will also have his opinions released last... so if Roberts is writing the EPA opinion as court watchers suspect... that will be 1 of the final... if not the final... opinion to be released tomorrow

Thank you, so they will not come out today. The court is putting in work.

no... the Court did not designate today as an opinion day
tomorrow has been designated an opinion day by the Court however

My opinion is that we’re gonna like their opinion.

What’s the SCOTUS geek’s tea leaf reading on which way this will go?
I think it will be 6-3 for West Virginia, but the court will not overturn Chevron.
If the court overturns Chevron, it should be a federal holiday. That 1984 case has done a lot to harm America. It has literally been used to defend government overreach for decades. Arizona, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina and Wisconsin have basically overturned Chevron within its state agencies. It was a bad decision.
Gorsuch's mother was head of the EPA in 1984 when Chevron came down. He is still against it. Love that man.

quote:Yes, which makes me think they aren't going to undermine that. 5-4 for the EPA.
Now think of the regulations that have been pushed down by the EPA, the CDC, the Department of Energy, the Department of Education, etc. over the years.

From at least a couple of cases this session, the Court has decided to just ignore Chevron instead of actually overturning it.
It's going to go the way of the Lemon test I bet.

For all the fuss about Roe this decision is actually much bigger. The three letter agencies have functioned as a 4th branch of government for too long.
CDC mask mandate is one of, if not, the most egregious.
