PA Supreme Court Justice David Wecht Leaves Democratic Party

"My jurisprudence and adjudication have always been independent, and they always will be. Now, my voting registration reflects that independence as well.
"From 1998 to 2001, years that preceded my judicial career, I served as Vice-Chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. In the quarter century that has passed since then, the Democratic Party has changed. Nazi tattoos, jihadist chants, intimidation and attacks at synagogues, and other hateful anti-Jewish invective and actions are minimized, ignored, and even coddled. Acquiescence to Jew-hatred is now disturbingly common among activists, leaders and even many elected officials in the Democratic Party.
"I can no longer abide this. So, I won’t. I am no longer registered within any political party.

David is the son of the famed forensic pathologist Cyril Wecht, who rose to prominence as a forensic consultant on high-profile cases such as the assassination of Robert Kennedy and the murder of actress Sharron Tate. He was probably best known for his criticism of the Warren Commission's 'Single Bullet Theory' in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. During his often controversial career, the elder Wecht served as Allegheny County Coroner, County Commissioner, and as Democratic Party Chairman.

For a life long Dem and political insider to go Indy it's kinda a big deal.

The family has been influential in Western Pennsylvania Democratic Party politics since the 60s, so when a Wecht decides to leave the party, Democrats take notice.

That sums it up nicely. Democrats need to understand that their party has been taken over by foreign money mostly Chinese and Russian in order to undermine our country with these radical ideas.

Nice dig at the Dem candidate for Maine Senate

No way, that man made a stand.

The above words don't sound very judicious. They sound very partisan and political, or just.... below what a judge would say. I'd expect a judge to provide his reasoning in a more eloquent manner. Just my opinion.
That said, I respect that he is registering as independent, rather than republican. There is simply no way that anyone over the age of 40 can become upset with their political party to the point of changing to the opposition party. Doing so says you were never really in your former party. Anyone upset at the Trump administration is not going to suddenly vote for liberals. That makes zero sense. Unless they're being paid to do so. Even then, they may talk the talk required by the paycheck, but I seriously doubt they'll actually vote liberal. So I suspect this guy will still be voting and mostly supporting the Democratic ticket.

Fetterman affirming he wont change. He may have to...
It is so nice to hear the truth about the democrats; and not the Obama era gaslighting race baiting...

Come over to the good side, we believe we should actually lock up criminals, keep more of the money that we earn, not re-assign our children’s gender, and can clearly articulate what a woman is.

Even though Trump has done a thing or two he said he wouldn't do, he has done much more that he did say he would do. Any displeasure I have with the couple of things that went against promises are vastly outwieghed by the promises kept and he hasn't changed much since seeking office.
Same with the GOP. I do not like the neo-cons, but there is too much I do like. The GOP, unlike the Dems have not gone off their reservation. The GOP is not bleeding voters like the Dems are. Many are in fact switching to become GOP voters. That is how bad the Dems have become.
If ever the GOP did what the modern Dems have done, I myself may seriously think about voting for a moderate Dem. I do not see that happening anytime soon.

Come over to the good side
There's your two options. Sadly.

If you don’t need money, there’s no need to affiliate with a party. His term ends right before he hits mandatory retirement age. What benefit does the republican party offer him?

I understand his change of heart is based solely on antisemitism.
Why doesn't he also take a stand against all of the additional anti western, anti american, anti hetero male, anti hetero female, anti child, pro criminal stances of the democrat party?
It's a nice, but incomplete gesture to denounce the modern party of Jack asses.

If he's anything like his dad, that will not be the case. Cyril Wecht was very independent and even supported a Republican candidate for Allegheny Commissioner back when he was a prominent figure in the Pittsburgh political landscape.
Cyril was an interesting person, he was the Allegheny County Coroner and was called in to do a lot of high profile forensic examinations and did the autopsies on JFK and RFK. He was not afraid to speak out about the conspiracy around JFK's assassination because of his experience with the autopsy and his dealings with LBJ.
