Their is no reason for the U.S. Consumer to pay the Tariffs, which take effect on China today. This has been proven recently when only 4 points were paid by the U.S., 21 points by China because China subsidizes product to such a large degree. Also, the Tariffs can be.....

....completely avoided if you by from a non-Tariffed Country, or you buy the product inside the USA (the best idea). That’s Zero Tariffs. Many Tariffed companies will be leaving China for Vietnam and other such countries in Asia. That’s why China wants to make a deal so badly!...

..There will be nobody left in China to do business with. Very bad for China, very good for USA! But China has taken so advantage of the U.S. for so many years, that they are way ahead (Our Presidents did not do the job). Therefore, China should not retaliate-will only get worse!

I say openly to President Xi & all of my many friends in China that China will be hurt very badly if you don’t make a deal because companies will be forced to leave China for other countries. Too expensive to buy in China. You had a great deal, almost completed, & you backed out!

The unexpectedly good first quarter 3.2% GDP was greatly helped by Tariffs from China. Some people just don’t get it!

I am no economics wizard, but I totally support taking back the advantages that our prior POTUS's willingly gave to China and other Pacific nations to the extreme detriment of the USA.

And yes - any corrective action has momentary discomfort - I am all for providing temporary subsidies to any of our domestic industries who suffer immediate harm from the corrective measures. But multi-national orgs can just go suck it up.

Tariffs against China won’t hurt us at all. Our economy is only 3.5% with China. Very minimal.

For the last couple of decades politicians and media have told us China was invincible economically and that our best days were behind us. Was that not true? Color me shocked.....

And thats their problem Gumbo. Your strength can also be your achilles heel. They have sooo much to lose.

Their head must be spinning, its not just the tariffs, they have companies exiting so they lose all those sales, the tax, and the employment. We have stopped them from buying any tech companies. We are banning huawei. We have stopped their students from multiple years of graduate study in sensitive areas. The slowdown in trade is affecting their US current account, which they need to continue belt and road. And while they tried to rally the EU against us, seems the EU is also taking a hard look at their trade practices.

I think Navarro took the 216 ways they were going to screw the US, used it as a template, and said thank you very much (10cents to Elvis).

Our trade policy with China has become a national security issue.

Our economic impact with Canada and Mexico are approximately 3% each. A little less than China. However Mexico and Canada are NOT a national security threat and are relatively good trading partners. In other words they don't cheat like China.

But China has different goals than being a good trading partners like Mexico and Canada. China wants to dominate the world. We shouldn't help them in their quest.

All the products that we currently receive from China can be replaced by manufacturing at home or striking a deal with India or other ASEAN countries. China is not the only game in town.

It's so weird watching the China loyalists melt over this issue.

Excellent point. Also, their agribusiness is poo compared to our own, so much so they have to import massive amounts of soybean and grain to prop up their need. Moreover, that "eswine ebola" is decimating their pork stock and they will have to import more than they already to prop that up as well.

basically, with this new round of tariffs, they are taxing themselves because they need the products so bad.

How did we ever let it get to this point with them? So glad Trump is righting this wrong. Going to laugh my balls off when the Trump Tariffs are what start the age old tradition of rioting and infighting in China again.

Good stuff. Intersting to see now Trump writing longer tweets so sending out more tweets. Ha

China is resorting back to imitation retaliation with their response this morning on adding 25% on our stuff is a good sign.

Screw "saving their face"

But our govt let them buy our biggest pig farm, so obviously they were smart there.

Under D.C.s nose, China has been building little pockets of need around the world. They may not be ready just yet to be dependent on them, but they could be forced to speed it up. Why we need to get all we can now by going hard to the paint now that we"ve shown our cards. it's worth the "increase in cheap products" the chicken littles keep crying over. We either break them by getting all we want or they will come back stronger.

The US should be assisting the Central and South American countries to develop their manufacturing and industrial bases, would practically eliminate the hoards of illegals pouring into the US.

Couldnt agree more. Even the quality, such that it was, from China seems to have fallen off more lately. Everything we buy there is pure shite and falls apart almost immediately.

Hell, look at what happened to crafstman after they went to China. Or sheetrock. Or any other number of crappy products.

Luxury in this country used to stand for a well made product that would last forever. Would be nice if this whole kerfuffle leads to that being the prevailing wisdom again.

Your stupid because you missed his error where he said “By” instead of “Buy” from non-tariff countries.

Your not missing his policies though. Your living better because of your president.

Some people here don't know the difference
between a spelling error and a grammar error.

"Their" is the correct spelling.

It’s not that big of a deal, especially since most people tweet on their phone; however, “their” is not correct in that sentence.
