Republicans killed the first assault weapons ban, and the one proposed after Sandy Hook.
No gun control would have saved the 17 lives that he thinks about and prays for, anyway.
Trump's just aping the same talking points we've heard since Valentines Day. He's not even original. He's the opposite of a leader, and pretty much an all around piece of shite.

First, when you say Dems "couldn't accomplish" gun control, they had a filibuster-proof majority. So it wasn't an issue of "couldn't", it was one of "didn't". They literally decided not to.
Secondly, Trump is a 2A advocate. He seems comfortable with his position, with little interest in caving to Dem whining about gun control. He's simply (appropriately) pointing out their hypocrisy.

Sandy Hook was 2012, Dems had the House, Senate, and White House 2008-2009. He's calling them out because they actually did nothing when they could and only make noise when there's a tragedy to pimp.
