Over the weekend, we teamed up with detectives from the California Alcohol Beverage Control for a "decoy" operation at local alcohol sales retail locations. Our juvenile "decoys" asked adults walking into the these stores if they were willing to purchase beer for them due to being under the legal age to buy it themselves.

You would think 100% of adults would say "No"... but four adults in separate incidents took money from the teens and purchased alcohol for them. They were arrested and released with a promise to appear in court citation.

They solicited people to commit a crime they otherwise wouldn’t have committed. That’s the textbook definition of entrapment.

A question about that. It is illegal for that kid to buy that. He is attempting to get you to break the law, trying to entrap you. What happens if you call the police and attempt to press charges?

You turn him in, and if the police say he's with them can you file charges against them?

Fwiw, I sent them an email and said precisely that.

I don't want drunk underage kids killing any more people on the highway, how could there be something more important than life.

No, there was never any change. I remember I wanted a case of miller lite and “whatever he wanted”. Came out with keystone and a pint of crown and said he didn’t have enough for miller lite

I think this is quite normal for police departments. I see nothing wrong with it.

Do I think the Los Angeles PD has more important things to be doing than cracking down on adults buying alcohol for minors? Yes.

Do I have a major problem with it? Nope. I would say no to anyone asking me to buy them beer. Mostly because I trust NOBODY.

This grant money should really go toward funding a wall.

How do you suggest they catch the person buying your son or daughter alcohol you do not want them to have or how do you address those giving alcohol to underage drivers..... I won't hold my breathe till you answer

Used to go the "Hey Mr." route in high school at the Walmart in town. We were dumb and would actually approach people in the liquor aisle to ask them to buy handles for us. Now that Im older, it's kind of sad how many people would buy for minors for 5 or 10 bucks. It never took us long to find someone willing at Walmark

Back in the day, we had a place called Abe's.
It was in the woods on a river road, and if you looked like you were at least 14, you could buy what you wanted. We always got them Miller Ponies.
Then we went camping, fishin and frog giggin.

So let’s break the law and violate people’s rights as a means of stopping that.

Is that really the road you want to go down?

There’s only like 1000 other crimes being committed on a daily basis that are more critical. On the flipside they are probably just looking for ways to not get shot… Hard not to respect police officers. Grossly underpaid for the shite job they have to do.

"Officer...I was just robbed outside of a liquor store. Some teens stole a case of beer I just purchased!"

"Sir...we have much more important things to do at this precinct. Be more careful next time."

I believe that the state creating the circumstances for a crime to occur and then arresting a citizen is fricked up bull shite.

Sure. The idiots who actually did it are...…...well...….idiots.

But this shite isn't deterring a soul. And, the state effectively created a crime where none may have EVER occurred.

The people arrested may have gone their entire fricking life without buying alcohol for a minor short of the state creating the circumstances.

So. End result. Citizens in jail. ZERO deterrent effect.

Always asked the bums loitering to buy for us. If the cops want to arrest those guys they could give two shits. The Asians knew what they were doing but looked the other way. Good times.

Are you under some delusion that this has even a minor deterrent effect?
