Britain is urging Germany to calm President Trump’s anger at low European defence spending by investing in railways and bridges that can be used by Nato troops in a crisis, The Times has learnt. Gavin Williamson, the defence secretary, is understood to be in favour of a “more imaginative” approach towards what Nato regards as defence expenditure as the alliance prepares for a crucial summit in Brussels this week.
It is a few days old, but when push comes to shove the Anglo-American alliance is still intact. Cheerio and good job old chaps.

Gonna need to see a lot more from those tea sippers before I call them an ally again.

Hey listen Merkel, it's true no one is really comfortable with Germany spending money on tanks and shite (you know how you guys can get), but could you spend some on infrastructure in case the US needs to roll through your country to save your sorry arse?

Trump loves the Brits - they spell the word "defence".

That is part of the "offset" that Germany is allowed to claim for the presence of the U.S. troops... everyone looks at "infrastructure" and thinks they subsidize building on U.S. bases but that is not the case... They are allowed to improve their roads, bridges, ports, and rail and call it "defense spending"... It is laughable...

Build infrastructure that will benefit Europeans but could be used by NATO forces IF needed? How is that a greater contribution to the NATO defense fund? What a sham.

I’d actually be okay with this. There was some info poster on here awhile back about how difficult it would be to mount a ground defense in europe due to infrastructure being so woefully ill-equipped to handle modern militaries.
They split the difference and meet half of the necessary increased expenditures on equipment/technology and the other half on making sure our tanks can move across their continent and I’d consider that a huge win for us.

Id like to see the the old band get back together and gang up on Germany. frick Germany the whole reason we even needed NATO in the first place was because of them so they damn sure don't deserve a free ride
