Oscar viewership at all-time low

Last night’s ceremony drew a 18.9 Live+Same Day rating in the metered market households. That was off 16% from last year’s 22.4 rating, which was a nine-year low. The 18.9 appears to be an all-time low for the Oscars, well below the previous low ratings point, logged with the 2008 telecast (21.9).
That, despite the fast that The Shape of Water was the the highest-grossing Best Picture winner in five years.
Last year, the 22.4 metered market rating translated to 32.9 million viewers — also a nine-year low — and a 9.1 rating among adults 18-49.

I can’t remember the last time I watched.
1. Hollywood puts out unoriginal and shitty movies.
2. All you have to do to win an Oscar is make a movie about race or gays or girl power.
3. I have no desire to watch used up actors fake cry and pretend they give a shite that some kids died in Florida

I was going to have it on in the background but I cut my cable and the ABC stream was shut down on reddit.
Although I love the PR of the NFL and Hollywood losing TV ratings, this is going to be the case going forward because of people like me who don't watch on cable or even rabbit ears. It's too easy to cook the books when it comes to internet ratings, so advertisers don't trust it. Ergo, they do everything they can (like block the reddit stream) to keep the TV ratings up. It's a losing battle, really.
And it's a nightmare for local TV advertising.
