Atmospheric EMP bursts having nationwide impact is also theoretic, since they have never really tested that scenario.

And that should just about end all of the BS that is the topic of this discussion. Imagine if China or Russia were to begin testing for this. The whole world would know.

I’m sure it’s been mentioned on here, but if you haven’t read the book, “One Second After”, which is a fictional account of possible outcomes from an EMP attack on the US, you need to read it.

Why read a book when you can just watch Jericho on Netflix.

I have an island in the Mississippi River and a horse. I know how to grow a garden and make moonshine and I know some people that have some mary jane seeds. Oh I also have plenty of weapons. Bring it on.

EMP is all fear mongering

Totally. Why would a hostile nation try this, which likely would not be successful, and face certain annihilation via a military response?

A computer software program to jam the grid and electronic infrastructure, although difficult, would be more likely to succeed and more difficult to detect the source. It's just not as scary to those addicted to AM shock radio programs as an EMP pulse attack.

CME (Coronal Mass Ejection) is a real concern. It happened shortly after the advent of the telegraph in the 1800’s, it literally induced enough current into the telegraph wires they melted off the poles. Some railroad tracks showed evidence of a welding effect from the induced current flow.

There are several scientists who’ve proposed hardening our electrical grid with increased shielding and a enhanced grounding design. So far the power companies and government have chosen not to spend the several billion dollars to protect the grid. We’re more concerned with climate change. Lol!

The Article linked by MSUtiger says it would require a massive nuke to explode at just the right altitude to shut down just the grid in sight of the blast, not the entire country. It also said none of these sorts of weapons has ever been tested hence the likelihood of success currently is slim and none.

You cannot hide nuclear explosions on this planet, especially above ground. The last above ground test was 1980.

They really have no proven evidence of this much bang at this height to cover this much area.

EMP attack is a bull shite fearmonger tactic. EMP as a by-product of a nuclear attack is legit. However the bigger issue there is the fact a nuclear bomb just wasted a city.
