This thread is about how real ID, which is more stringent than a driver's license, is not sufficient to verify citizenship. Like others have noted, stupid blue states give illegals drivers licenses already. Plus they're easily faked.

A little of both, probably. I'm still not comfortable with citizens being caught up in detainment because we don't have immigration documents and a real ID apparently isn't enough to satisfy officers.

I understand, and I do want to apologize for the... hyperbole..that I gave you over your wife. I'm trying to get a point across that this can and will be abused by future administrations if allowed to stand. Obama's IRS targeting and COVID lockdowns are irrefutable proof that the government can and will weaponize its tools against its own citizens. It's why I'm not comfortable with citizens being detained and given a hard time for carrying what most of us carry every day

As someone with immigrant in-laws (my wife was born here and doesn't look foreign) I'm not sure how they'd verify citizenship if told a real ID isn't good enough. Despite being here 40 years, they've still got accents and don't carry their passport daily. It's enough that I'll oppose the current enforcement methods until we're sure people's rights aren't being violated for doing it the right way.
