I would love to know the exact amount of people in NYC right now with their AC set on 78. I bet either very few of not very many.

I guess it's okay. It's your electric bill, that all.

My house is 2 story, 3800 sq ft, 3 AC units. We prefer the electric bills at 74, sometimes lower depending on humidity, but we live in DFW, not a swamp. The air is generally a whole lot more dry than in Louisiana and south Tejas.

Why do you get to decide if someone else is spending their own money shrewdly?

67 and we hit 101 today. Just normal summer. I keep it 67 so it’s able to stay cool and not get overworked trying to adjust higher then lower.

If that's what they call you, lean into it. Be racist and homophonic. Be ungovernable.
Its what the Dem Socialites call you anyway.

MAMDANI’S NYC: Con Edison Shuts Off Power to 10,000 Customers in Queens as Temps Soar Over 100 Degrees

It gets even worse.

500,000 customers are being urged to reduce their electricity use while the ConEd crews make repairs.

Per 4 New York: ConEd cuts voltage by 8% across parts of the Bronx, Westchester, Queens and Brooklyn under soaring demand. Nearly 500,000 customers are being urged to slash electricity use while crews make repairs. Neighborhoods include: Yonkers, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, Pelham, Bronxville, Eastchester, Northeast Bronx, City Island, Glendale, Forest Hills, Ridgewood, Maspeth, Middle Village, Long Island City, Hunters Point, Sunnyside, Woodside, Bay Ridge, Park Slope, Sunset Park, Borough Park, Dyker Heights, Flatbush, Kensington, Bensonhurst and Windsor Terrace

The equipment problems in these neighborhoods have no effect on the rest of the Con Edison system.

Con Edison has asked customers in these areas not to use energy-intensive appliances such as washers, dryers, and microwaves until crews complete repairs. The company also asks customers to limit unnecessary use of air conditioning. If you have two air conditioners, use only one and set it to the highest comfortable temperature.

My central air unit puked out late Friday morning. It was set at 68.

Fortunately, I run a commercial mechanical contractor. Wife figured it out Fri about 2-3PM. I got a tech out about 5PM. He picked up a new unit at local wholesaler at 7:30 this morning (July 4th) and spent today replacing it (bless his heart). Got up and running about 2 and it's just starting to get back to "normal".

At the worst point this morning my house was 81....... and it felt like the seventh circle of hell.

Bottom line, there's no way in hell anybody (in the world) who has an AC unit has it set at 78
