Not practicing in Ohio now but just received this email.
Anticipate the goal is to reserve supplies for those with documented illness rather than prophylactic use. This will be interesting.

Emergency Rule for Dispensing Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine – Effective 3/22/2020 On March 22, 2020, Governor Mike DeWine authorized the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy to file emergency rule 4729-5-30.2 of the Administrative Code, which reads: 4729-5-30.2 – Prescription requirements for chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine (A) Unless otherwise approved by the board’s executive director, no prescription for chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine may be dispensed by a pharmacist or sold at retail by a licensed terminal distributor of dangerous drugs unless all the following apply: (1) The prescription bears a written diagnosis code from the prescriber; and (2) If written for a COVID-19 diagnosis, the diagnosis has been confirmed by a positive test result, which is documented on the prescription and both of the following apply: (a) The prescription is limited to no more than a fourteen-day supply; and (b) No refills may be permitted unless a new prescription is furnished. (B) Prescriptions for either presumptive positive patients or prophylactic use of chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine related to COVID-19 is strictly prohibited unless otherwise approved by the board’s executive director in consultation with the board president, at which time a resolution shall issue. This rule is now effective and enforceable. To assist licensees in complying with this rule, the Board has developed the following frequently asked questions document: www.pharmacy.ohio.gov/COVIDrx If you need additional information, the most expedient way to have your questions answered is to e-mail the Board by visiting: www.pharmacy.ohio.gov/contact.

Should be the same with tests. The walking worried shouldn't be tested unless they've been exposed with a known case or are symptomatic.

Agreed on this as well.
If someone without symptoms just wants testing, are they going to isolate themselves. Maybe but anyone that goes out just wiped out a test for no reason.

I know two Docs in Texas taking the combo as a prophylaxis as they treat ER patients.
I would guess they would tell the State Pharmacy board to pound sand.

....read the thalassemia thread. I don’t think it is worth a thing as a prophylactic...but it may reduce mortality for those in guarded or critical condition.

Do you understand that if a doctor prescribes the med a pharmacist does not have the authority to override it? If there is a potential conflict then said pharmacist calls the Docs office for clarification. He or she doesn't have the authority to override a doctor's script.

This is why testing= hydroxychloroquine
People in Wisconsin who did what they were told called the hotline, screened presumptively positive were then told the testing sites were being shut down.
So much for being proactive and ahead of the curve.
From MJS regarding testing sites being shut down:
“ Westergaard urged clinicians to prioritize tests for patients who were hospitalized and needed testing to inform their medical care.
Many Wisconsin residents — including those with COVID-19 symptoms and compromised immune systems — have reported being turned away for testing.

my wife is a pharmacist, she had two doctors call in the last two days trying to write Chloroquine as a prophylactic for themselves and family members...
my wife said "not happening"
I asked her, do you have the authority to tell a doctor no? She said the word is out already, "do no dispense unless it's for treatment"
I asked her what if he needs it stay healthy so he can help sick people? we need the front line healthy

waiting for MS to provide something similar....
my company has already... basically give the new people up to a 2 week supply
and the ones who take it all the time limiting to a 1 month supply instead of their usual 3 month supply if applicable ( I don't agree with this part but oh well)

I am in Texas with a friend who has Lupus. Without this med she cannot take her immune system meds and she life would be at risk.
This is stupid crazy shite. She takes this twice a day. So she doesn't need any intervention.

I have a friend who is a pharmacist who has flat out refused to fill it for more than a wk bc she has lupus and RA Patients who need it.
According to 2 other friends I’ve spoken to in the medical world Docs are prescribing it to themselves and it has already caused supply problems.
That tells me two things. 1) Pharmacists are badasses who care about their patients; 2) the drug probably works and the Docs know it, and this whole fricking thing is gonna be over by Saturday bc we will have a preventative and a cure.

Do I understand the one above that the script has to be accompanied by a positive test result?? How can you get it prophylactically if so? (Nktnfornme — just curious as to how the docs did it)

Email from La. Board of Pharmacy.
I work at a hospital with automatic dispensing machines on each floor. Friday we turned the count on each of these meds. So, just like narcotics, have to enter # left each time the Med is dispensed. Plus, not stocked in ER.
