Do I trust China? No

Do I believe that they will help us in a significant way? I have my doubts.

Do I believe though that they are growing more and more frustrated with Iran? Absolutely.

China is a stronger country when the Strait is open. My sense of pragmatism makes me believe that something positive can come from this meeting.

Trump is doing in China what he is best at - deal making.

He and Xi seem to get along very well on a personal level.

I notice he took Elon, Jason Huang (NVIDIA) and Tim Cook (Apple) along with him. This is a business-oriented set of meetings.

Look dude, I drove over Attigun Pass[remember ice road truckers], in a 30 foot class c rv. 24 hour daylight, the Alyeska pipeliners would check in on us every 24 hours explaining what's ahead and asking if we needed any help. Great week above the arctic circle. All the oil folks needed was to get rid of the Biden greenies and let them go to work.

And Governor Palin still looks great.........

Good for you. It is very expensive to drill on the North Slope. All of the equipment has to be delivered via ocean barge and only part way loaded due it is so shallow for miles into Prudhoe Bay. Palin pushed through legislation to raise cost to produce on the North Slope while trying get more drilling where it was already depleted near Anchorage (why the LNG and terminal closed several years ago after 40 years in operation)

Not only that but she put the state on the hook for $500 million on a natural gas pipeline from the North Slope through Canada to mainland US. That was never going to happen. The money the state paid was to Trans Canada for a study. How much was kicked back to her?

She was an unknown when picked by McCain as his running mate is the only reason it helped his chances. She is NOT conservative, just a lot of YEEHAW

"all of the equipment has to be delivered by ocean barge" Obviously you did not watch the 13 seasons of ice road truckers making the run from Fairbanks to Prudhoe bay.

and she stills looks good!

Real life friends worked there. One is now ops manager for a refinery in the Southwest. He was an operator on the North Slope. Have fun watching the ice road truckers used to build gravel islands that a lifelong friend was a civil engineer for Shell and first project was to design a new way to tie sandbags. He recently retired as a top deepwater venture manager.in the company. His second project was fabricating the Bullwinkle jacket

How about those SMPTs hauling power plants and production modules.

Your engineering experience with oil and gas is lacking.

The ship that Iran sank earlier today was a livestock boat, one which have probably been allowed to pass through the blockade by the USN, had it reached it. India has been publicly lambasting Iran lately for numerous amount of Indian vessels they have harassed, and this was probably the IRGC's way of getting back at them.

Iran sank a livestock carrier and seized a floating armory in the Gulf of Oman today.

The Indian-flagged Haji Ali was attacked earlier in the day off the coast of Oman by what was reportedly an Iranian cruise missile or drone. The attack caused a fire that eventually sank the vessel. All 14 crew members were rescued by the Omani Coast Guard.

Meanwhile, Iran also seized the Honduran-flagged Hui-Chuan, a floating armory that supplied weapons to security firms conducting anti-piracy operations in the region. The vessel was off the coast of Fujairah when it was reportedly seized by “unauthorized personnel whilst at anchor,” according to the UKMTO. The ship is currently heading toward Iranian territorial waters.

Six Arab states demanded full legal compensation from Iran for damages and rejected Tehran’s claims of unilateral control over the Strait of Hormuz, Bahrain News Agency reported.

The letter, signed by Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar and Jordan, was sent to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the UN Security Council on Wednesday.

“No single country … may claim the right to impose unilateral administration,” the letter said.

If war breaks out and ?Bahrain once again makes US bases available for attacks against us, we will strike them so hard that they will forget their name,” Iranian MP and former foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki warned.

He also accused Bahrain of pushing anti-Iran measures after US and Israeli strikes, saying Manama had backed a Security Council resolution against Tehran “instead of expressing sympathy with us over the killing of Ali Khamenei.”

Mottaki said Bahrain had also tried to pass an anti-Iran resolution at the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting in Istanbul last month, but Tehran had blocked a vote on it through “diplomatic prudence” and support from some countries.

Mr. Xi might want to reconsider invading Taiwan.

During WW II Japan operated a chemical weapons factory in North Taiwan. The Nationalists took possession of this facility following the conclusion of World War II and are believed to have expanded the facility. The U.S. Congress was informed in 1989 that Taiwan could have acquired offensive chemical weapons capability, including stockpiles of sarin. Taiwanese authorities acknowledged only the existence of a defensive research program.

In 1967, a secret nuclear weapons program began. Taiwan was able to acquire nuclear technology from abroad including a research reactor from Canada and low-grade plutonium from the United States allegedly for a civilian energy system, but in actuality to develop fuel for nuclear weapons. Taiwan bought 100 tons of uranium metal rom South Africa which was delivered between 1973 and 1974. In 1980 the Taiwanese contracted for 4,000 tons of uranium metal from South Africa although it is not known how much of this order was ever delivered. Taiwan has not done any underground nuclear testing but have run special computer simulations.

So, if China was about to invade Taiwan they might learn that Taiwan besides numerous other defensive capabilities could possibly strike China with weapons of mass destruction also.
