The same concept goes with other nations as well. At one time, the Germans were not a threat. Then they were. Then they weren't. Then they were.
Neutralize the threat. And repeat as necessary.
Hopefully, the Persians have a plan. But if they don't, their failure is not on America.

What actual power does this guy have within the regime though? My concern is that we are negotiating with someone who doesn't really have any power to do the things that we want.

I believe anyone we are talking to within the Regime is done simply to make them think we want a deal.
I think we want them dead. We are weaking them to get to the point were we can let them fall via the hands of the Iranian people.
Air campaign. Then special ops. Then the Iranian people.
That is a very simplified explanation.
EVERY word you hear from the Trump administration is us talking to the Iranian regime. Idiots in the press are so freaking stupid they take anything that is said as legit.
For example. Threating to blow up Kharg Island. Trump is telling them that we might blow it up because we don't want it blown up. The press is to stupid to figure anything out. We threaten to invade Kharg Island and the press believes it (at this stage). What happens the IRGC deploys troops there. lol Now those troops are basically guarding it and aren't available elsewhere. Idiots are guarding about the only thing that they don't need to guard.

UK does not have troops who are prepared to fight is the UKs issue and they have no will to fight.

I believe their is some prime real estate in Gaza that, once bulldozed, can be used to build a large naval and air base along with a Trump Tower and Casino for our troops' entertainment needs.
There is no major port infrastructure in Gaza and the sea is a bit rough there. Biden's aid pier didn't last three months. Land will be cheap in Gaza which would come in handy for building air bases but Haifa would be a better spot for a naval base. At least that is my amateur opinion.

The UK doesn't join the battle. And that is a good thing. Why? Because the UK has nukes and it is not something I want to see is the USA military fighting against a country with nukes.
