Would have to straight up bomb residential neighborhoods

Drones are smaller, very accurate and far more discrete when it comes to that kind of stuff.

Worked well enough in Dresden, Tokyo, and countless other cities.

Video obtained by Iran International, filmed aboard a nearby vessel, captures the US military's radio warnings to the Iranian oil tanker STARK 1 before it was struck near Kharg Island.
Three warnings are audible over the VHF channel. In the first, a US military aircraft tells the tanker: "Motor Tanker STARK 1, this is the United States military aircraft. I am preparing to fire at your stern. You have 3 minutes to clear the crew from the stern of your ship. Over."
The second cuts that to one minute. The third is final: "This was your final warning... get into your lifeboats and abandon the ship immediately."
Between the warnings, crew members can be heard talking in Persian and Urdu. One asks whether the captain and his deputy are at their posts. He is told the captain is still asleep.
Iranian media reported on Saturday morning that a tanker had been hit by US forces six miles off Kharg Island, without naming the vessel. STARK 1 was carrying Iranian oil and was first sanctioned by Washington in 2018.

The very first Stark ship struck by a missile in the Gulf was in 1987. A USS destroyer named Stark was struck, resulting in the deaths of several crew members. The destroyer saw the missiles incoming, but held off defensive actions because of verification requirements.

Stark 1 getting hit last night, maybe history payback.

CENTCOM Destroys 3 IRGC Oil Tankers After Iran Targets 2 U.S. Navy Warships
TAMPA, Fla. — U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces struck three Iranian crude oil carriers, Sept. 5, after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles toward two U.S. Navy warships patrolling regional waters.

A U.S. aircraft carrier and guided-missile destroyer successfully evaded multiple unprovoked Iranian attacks. No American personnel were harmed.

Following Iran’s failed attacks, CENTCOM permanently disabled the IRGC crude oil carriers M/T Downy off the coast of Kharg Island and M/T Stark 1 near Jask. American forces also completely destroyed the unladen crude oil carrier M/T Kylo (also known as the “Noxen”) in the Gulf of Oman, striking the vessel in multiple critical locations to render it inoperable after the crew was directed to abandon ship.

The three Iranian crude oil tankers are part of a multibillion-dollar shadow network that funds the IRGC and its regional proxies. Iran has no means by which to defend them.

“Let the message to the IRGC be clear: If you shoot at two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic cost —taking out three of yours,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander. “We will not hesitate to defend American forces, and if necessary, destroy Iran’s limited and exposed oil fleet.”

My question, what is guiding these "missles" ?

We need to destroy what ever guidance they are using, including satellites if China or Russia are the culprits

We may be getting close “F it” and take out Kharg. But, I guess at that point Iran”s only thing to preserve and make them come to the table would be gone. On the other hand it may hasten regime demise.

The IDF has been taking it to Hezbollah the last 2 weeks. When they secured the Ali al-Taher ridge, it captured the largest stronghold of Hezbollah and IRGC in Lebanon.

The IRGC spent about 25 years building the tunnel network, shipping arms, personnel, etc.. They poured tons of resources into it and now that's been wiped out. It's why the IRGC was issuing threats against Israel if they took it out. It was a huge loss to them financially, militarily and a blow to the IRGC's morale when it fell.

Now the IDF is concentrating on removing the rest of Hezbollah's positions in Southern Lebanon.
