The survey of coronavirus patients, aimed at figuring out why more cases continue to surface, found that, before they had been admitted to the hospital, 64% were generally “at home.” It said 37% were retired and 46% were unemployed.
Just 4% percent were using public transportation
I would love to see a bigger snapshot. The numbers seem solid as far as the age but the 4%
can't be close.

Maybe the transit users were asymptomatic?

This is recent positives in the last few days after prolonged lockdown conditions. Between mask-wearing and lots fewer people using transit and spending much more time at home, it's not surprising that by this point there are more infections acquired from family and close contacts.

NYC study

Still living on top of each other...

I am not sure I am buying the 4% number on public transportation and I think this study is trying to cover for not shutting down one of the nastiest, most germ infested places in NYC...

I'd really like to see something similar from a month ago.We know there's 70+ MTA workers who have died.

No idea why Cuomo is so stunned 66% were at home.

Because it simply can’t be true in NYC

This would almost mean that it is more prevalent in those that don’t take public transit than those that do.

It's a very recent study and we know ridership is down 95%.

I think a study from a month ago would give you different numbers.

Then it is not valid and I will stand by my assertion that it is attempting to show that the MTA running was not an issue with the spread, when anyone with half a brain knows it spread there... It had to...

70+ MTA workers have died from CV so we know it was obviously a huge part of the problem.

A large number of these transmissions are from not symptomatic people to people who are more susceptible to the virus.

If someone who visits them but are asymptomatic brings it to them and infects them, the result is the same.

disagree, key word is hospitalized

1/3 of those in NY that have been hospitalized, over 1/4 of the deaths have been in nursing homes. They aren't using public transportation.

At least 4,813 residents with confirmed or presumed cases of COVID-19 have died at 351 of New York’s 613 nursing homes since March 1, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration’s new list.

I think that 4% public use of transportation was for the state of New York, not NYC.

Ya think? Nobody said it wasn't and next to deaths, hospilization rates are the most vital statistic.

Ya mean people in Nursing Homes are dying?

Ya don't say

OF COURSE they don't use public transportation but I can promise you the number is higher than 4% if the survey was a month ago. Nobody said it would be a majority but 15% isn't an absurd number IMO

You do know over 70 MTA workers have died, correct?

Initial findings of a state analysis of recent hospital admissions indicate most new victims of the coronavirus are people who were mainly out of the workforce

If you are out of the workforce, you're not hitting those nasty subways much.

And a lot of the study was conducted in outlying areas. People have cars out there. They just don't drive them into the city

Anyone who uses the subway likely is immune to almost every illness.

How many of those 1300 were nursing home residents?

Few of them were going anywhere, let alone on public transit.
