Has this been discussed? I never really knew the reasoning, I mean I knew, but had never seen an explanation.
Cool after all we are all equal!
Showing love to everyone. Equality Yes!
Oh

Based on those discussions, we’ve decided to adopt the change and start using uppercase “Black” to describe people and cultures of African origin, both in the United States and elsewhere. We believe this style best conveys elements of shared history and identity, and reflects our goal to be respectful of all the people and communities we cover.
Cool after all we are all equal!

The new style is also consistent with our treatment of many other racial and ethnic terms: We recently decided to capitalize “Native” and “Indigenous,” while other ethnic terms like “Asian-American” and “Latino” have always been capitalized.

We will retain lowercase treatment for “white.” While there is an obvious question of parallelism, there has been no comparable movement toward widespread adoption of a new style for “white,” and there is less of a sense that “white” describes a shared culture and history. Moreover, hate groups and white supremacists have long favored the uppercase style, which in itself is reason to avoid it.
Oh

Reason no. 673,394 why the media is vile filth.

It's a shame white people have more important things to care about and more to lose, cause this feels antagonistic

NYT is the epitome of unequality.....
You can tell the LEFT has not much to talk about.....discussing capital letters????
The tank is empty and they are nervous.

According to who? “Journalist” are beyond all redemption at this point.

Short answer: white leftist pandering.

Just another example of why I thoroughly love being a straight, white, American born male.
I cannot make myself give a shite about this because there’s no reason for me to

Where is the link?
IF this is true.... I believe that there is an all out war of Whites in the making...

Oh, is that so?
Then what do we do about the Black Panthers and Black Hebrew Israelites?
How about the Latin Kings?
...oh, right. That's (D)ifferent.

That basically undercuts their own argument of institutional racism doesn't it?

But I thought we all shared a culture oppression and privilege?

What's notable is whites will be leading it

Some stylebooks do as the NYT is doing. Some stylebooks capitalize both the W and the B. I follow the latter rule in all my writing, including pleadings and related legal filings. No one has ever complained.

I'm curious if the current version of MLA has a determination on this.
