look i agree (hence the caps in OP)

but

conservatives can at least say "well we're living under the law laid down in the Arizona case" and making the current legal system work for our world view. liberals defending sanctuary cities like the NYAG is literally arguing against the very argument they used in that Arizona case, now claiming that the USSC was wrong in its ruling (i'm not even sure b/c his stance is so stupid)

You're correct, I lump the first 100 years together

I'm still on board with states rights.

i am, too, but we don't live in that system. i have an idealistic view of policy and a realistic view of policy

this is kind of like the "you can't accept Medicare if you don't believe in it" argument that totally denies what reality is

If the republican controlled feds want to deliver cities to future democratic vote, I'm all for that.

The complaints to libs about the size and scope of the leviathan have been ignored for decades.

Maybe now that the full fury of the beast is turned on them will they finally understand.

Let Trump wreck shite for a while and then let's all vote in Rand to dismantle the beast.

Federal school money to pay for illegal's kids will be the easiest case to argue.

Not a lawyer, but if immigration is a federal responsibility, the 10th isn't in play, correct?

Wouldn't this be a little more complicated since it'd be related to funding indirectly tied to policy rather than outright state law (like AZ)?

Regardless, I'll tell my liberal friends roughly the same thing I told them about fearing executive power: if you don't want the feds to be able to screw you like this, don't give them so much power. Same thing applies to the executive branch in general. We should not have an imperial presidency.

Trump lacks the constitutional authority to cut off funding from the city.

Good luck with that, Schneiderman.

Except immigration IS DELEGATED to the Federal Government. The only question has ever been whether federal law preempts in this area. Nice try, Charlie Day.

Which sanctuary cities voted for Trump?

The founders didn't provide for that. Even if you think the 14th Amendment does provide birth right citizenship, the founders were dead and buried by 1868.

yes

plus the USSC just ruled that states can't even enact their own state policies that conflict with federal regs b/c of the federal domain in this area. so....yeah, this is a really, REALLY shitty argument

If Progressive want to agree about the 10th Amendment, let's go ahead and dismantle the unconstitutional agency regime we've lived under since the new deal. Congress can finally stop abrogating their constitutional responsibility.
