The Eagles had a lot of good songs but in hindsight they were a pretty tame, sanitized version of more memorable bands like the Allmans, CCR, or Little Feat. Personally I'll take Dr. Hook over the Eagles anyday. They actually have a great catalogue aside from the comedy songs.
I knew Journey was for gays when I was 13. Journey has always sucked arse. You like really mild and boring music.

Some of the YT "reaction" channels are bogus, but this one is legit. This young woman knows a little bit about mucic, and she's totally blown away by the Eagles.
Why wouldn't she be? She hasn't heard much music as good as this.

I will add
The Blue Stones
The Cold Stares
Another Black Day
Cry of Love
Taddy Porter
Podunk
Etc
Just but a few pulled off my playlist.
Radio is what is dead. Not music.

Kelly Holland was the soul of that band. Should have been much larger in the 90s.

We’re gonna pretend groups like Alabama were lyrical geniuses?
Groups like them and the Eagles were ultra commercialized in their appearance and music style
Good bands. But they are pop bands
I’d take a random sampling of whiskey myers over just about any oldie band

I hate the Eagles. I have an irrational hatred of them too. When I hear one of their songs, I get chills and want to throw a chair. I can't explain it. Same thing when I hear shitty rap or hip hop music.
There is still a lot of great music being made. You just have to know where to go look. Anything mainstream is going to be garbage designed for simple idiots.
One of my favorite artists is Steven Wilson. His major band, Porcupine Tree, had a song about 20 years ago, called "The Sound of Musak". The lyrics to that song were dead on regarding the future of music.
Hear the sound of music drifting in the aisles
Elevator prozac stretching on for miles
The music of the future will not entertain
It's only meant to repress and neutralise your brain
Soul gets squeezed out
Edges get blunt
Demographic
Gives what you want
One of the wonders of the world is going down
It's going down I know
It's one of the blunders of the world that no-one cares
No-one cares enough
Now the sound of music comes in silver pills
Engineered to suit you, building cheaper thrills
The music of rebellion makes you wanna rage
But it's made by millionaires who are nearly twice your age
Soul gets squeezed out
Edges get blunt
Demographic
Gives what you want
One of the wonders of the world is going down
It's going down I know

Since what? The 50s, there has been a strong strain of pop. That pop has always been "soulless materialistic fluff". That's the entire point.
Even throughout the 60s, major "classic rock" bands started out as clean cut, sanitized, poppy versions.
Just look at the difference in 1965:
and
The Who
and 1969:
The Who
Led Zeppelin
Then you had a reversion/devolution when bands like the Eagles came to try to make that sound more pop-focused in the 70s.
And the cycle continues onward.

The culture has nothing to do with bad music, the Telecommunications Act of 1997 has more to do with the onset of crappy music than the culture along with Napster back in the day.
It costs a lot of money to produce a band as opposed to a solo act who can do most of the production in their bedroom. About 100K as opposed to 750K.

Not happening. We will never see the 70s or 80s or 90s music again. Gone. Enjoy what we have.
