I think I would rather hear your very specific definition because evidently the scenario I laid out for you doesn't fall under your narrow umbrella. Overthrowing/framing a democratically elected president is treason. You're arguing the semantics of the how not the what. Espionage isn't the only form of treason.

Treason is limited to overt acts of war and giving aid and comfort to the enemy. This is precisely because people have used treason as a common political charge against opponents. So you’re correct in your limiting definition and also frustrated with something that has existed for as long as we’ve been a country.

I would agree, it really is all about votes. Either side will do anything and i mean anything to get or retain votes. They all really do not care about the law unless it gets them votes or is going to take votes from them.
