Note to GOP leaders. Trump's base is NOT the Republicans base.

Just because Trump wins a state or county does NOT means any ole Republican is going to win it. This is what partly leaders DO NOT understand. For example, Trump takes Ohio easily whereas Ron gets his arse beat handedly in Ohio according to current polling.

Ohio is a state Trump won by 10 points and Biden is beating DeSantis. Ohio is a state with a GOP governor and GOP legislature and Ohio is going blue if DeSantis has to face Biden in November. Just terrible.

Why?

Trump's base is NOT the Republican base and Ron DeSantis, good, bad or indifferent, is seen as a typical Republican.

Now Trump's base can be the new Republican base with two major changes:

1. GOP leadership needs to turn their back on the neocon Bush league in the GOP.

2. Rally around Trump.

Yeah, we know. That’s another reason for me to not vote for Trump.

You typed all of that based on polling about a candidate who hasn’t had any chance of being the nominee in 7-8 months. Why?

Ron is just an example of the mistakes by GOP leadership.

Trump's base is not the GOP base. If you want Trump's base to vote for your candidate give them some love. Stop ignoring them or worse treating them like shite. Embrace their vote.

Can Trump win without the traditional Republican base?

No, he cannot.

Can DeSantis win without Trump's MAGA base?

No, he cannot.

In short: We're fricked.

When Trump is on the ballot turnout is historically high but the Bush league Republicans need to get over themselves. The party is changing into more of a working class party. Embrace it.

These working class people lean socially conservatives, want lower taxes, want sane trade policy, border security and do not want war. Lean in that direction.

Yes it is. Donald Trump is no longer a newcomer or some sort out outsider.

The only evidence you’re putting forward to the contrary is some hypothetical poll about a candidate who will never be the nominee.

The base is why the GOP will struggle once again to decisively control congress post-2024 despite a favorable political landscape.

The base nominates MAGA purists in purple suburban districts and then wrings their hands when they lose by double digits.

LMAO...Ron would win Ohio handily. He may or may not win it as "bigly" as trump, but he would win. Having said that, I do believe that Trump is more competitive in states like Pa and Mi, but since Ds control those states, they will not make the same mistakes they made in 2016 ever again.

For any R to win the path is the same. All solid red states, plus Ga, Az, Wi, and the one district in Maine.

Yeah, people turned out both for and against him. But the population is also larger than it used to be so that's a little misleading on its own. Now in 2024 let's say the traditional republicans behave like some of the posters here and say "frick him I'm staying home."... as has been promised if DeSantis secures the nomination.

Does Trump win then? No he gets blown out.

MAGA doesn't have the numbers to win on their own. It's just the math.

Either the wounds heal and the two sides come together to give us a fighting chance or it gets ugly.

Everyone needs to get over themselves if we're to have a chance moving forward. But we also need help from independents and we need to grow our ranks with younger voters.

That ship sailed when you decided to team up with the far left to attack the only conservative running.

Good luck.

The skepticism Trump gets from the segment of the Right I'm most familiar with is rooted in Trump's record of being soft/easily pushed around by the Left and his ineffectiveness in leading the Right.

I mean, who doesn't want lower taxes, sane trade policies and great rhetoric about the open border? The problem is a lot of conservatives want all of that along with not being so good to the establishment and turning the country over to Democrats when they demand that be done.
