What do you do if you can’t afford to take care of your own family? You stop helping others and don’t fund things that aren’t beneficial to your family.

Cut off the rest of the world and stop funding every stupid war and organization that doesn’t benefit the American people. Easy fix.

that’s for bragging dude

we would have to start somewhere and phase it in

keep income tax on the highest 1% of earners to start, then phase those out over time

None of that is true at all. Do you spend as much as Mark Cuban or Elon musk?

No, you don't. A consumption tax would immediately replace income taxes.

How about the right wing utopians start up a new country somewhere, maybe on an island, and they can test out their fantasies. No taxes, 100% tariffs, and one party rule with no regulations. Should be perfect, right?

Considering there are several openly socialist nations where "progressives" could waltz right in and experience the sort of totalitarian hellscape they've worked tirelessly to subvert our constitutional republic into for the past 80 years, I say y'all first.

You could eliminate probably 90-95% of the federal government and the average American wouldn’t even notice. In fact, they’d probably see an improvement in their quality of life.

I didn’t say we did

I said we’d need that much to run the government without debt.

Things you need in government at a federal level….

A military.

If we stopped putting out military in every dang country in the world, the costs would go down. We’d also probably stop pissing off other countries as much.

Literally almost every single thing should be neighborhoods, local government, state government decided.

The smaller the group of people the more liberal you can be. But the larger amounts of people you are governing, the more conservative.

There needs to be cuts, but in some form there has always been a method to fund the federal Gov.

I get that, but we all know that we are not going to eliminate the federal gov. Yes, major cuts need to take place, but we are talking about how to replace the tax system.

Consumption tax would mean ALL people living in the USA paid based on there lives.

If you cut the budget from 2.18 trillion to 1 trillion, you still have to make that up. I would imagine a 5% consumption tax would do it.

Really not a serious question but I’ll respond

Our interstates are incredibly beneficial. Sure they could be fined by tolls but I’m fine with gas taxes funding. It’s appropriate.

Fema- after Katrina, they were hugely helpful in what I went through.

Military- without our military, we’re cooked.

That’s just fed level.

The federal government is likened to the NFL, whereas the states are the owners and the fed gub is Roger Goodell. The states give the power to Roger, pay Roger,

and can take it away.

Look at the country, prior to the Civil War.

Tariffs funded the country. Most of the tariffs came from southern ports ....

I believe in a consumption tax.

While I definitely love the idea of eliminating income taxes, I’d prefer to see property taxes eliminated first or simultaneously.

My fear is without income taxes, property taxes might be increased as one way to help maintain overall tax revenue.

Seems to lead down the whole “you’ll own nothing and be happy” road unintentionally.

Or intentionally.

Just my opinion.

Local entities being funded via property taxes are immaterial to the potential elimination of the federal income tax racket.
