Wait wut?
I also haven't played baseball since I was a child.
Just pointing out that all games are childish. We don't indulge in them because we're seeking an adult activity. People shouldn't concern themselves with what others do in their free time.

That's why the blanket tariffs and not targeted tariffs are lazy and stupid.
We should get there. When Howard Lutnick, Secretary of Commerce, was on the All In podcast (a great listen, by the way), he said the tariffs would be targeted and pointed out that many things not produced here are for good reason.
Now, the admin may view gaming consoles/consumer electronics as something that could be assembled here. That process is probably 95% automated. A facility like that would take years to get off the ground, though. The US has rarely produced such items.

Probably waiting until the dust settles to see if they need to adjust the price.
Oh no doubt about that. I'm pretty sure we won't have to worry too much about tariffs with Japan, but at the same time I do believe concessions related to their favorable treatment of PlayStation and Nintendo at the expense of Xbox should be made. I doubt we'll see that though.

I don’t care what adults do in their free time but obviously the effects on a generation as a whole are different when adults replace physical activity, ie playing baseball, as opposed to playing baseball on a computer.

I'm sure civilization will be so much better off for it!

Nah, it's pretty much the same. Sitting around all day and never getting out of the house isn't the same as simply enjoying a video game. A better comparison would probably be to reading a book, but I was just highlighting that no games are "productive" activities. It's pathetic for anyone posting on a website mostly dedicated to a team of children playing a game to then turn around and pretend others are being childish by playing games.

Unless...
you are retired and can do whatever the frick you want
I am retired, don't play those "take forever games" but I might someday if the mood strikes me.

I sense a situation like Covid, where every hiccup or delay will be easily whitewashed with the “tariffs!” Excuse.

There are definite generational effects of spending hours playing computer games and then spending more time on social media daily. It’s the primary reason the military has been having trouble meeting recruitment quotas for years now due to inability to pass physical and/or cognitive entrance tests. Patients are more obese now than any previous years I’ve been practicing medicine. There’s only 24 hours a day. If you’re doing the above multiple days a week, if not daily, some aspect of your development will suffer

Has a gaming console ever been manufactured in the United States?
Maybe Atari?
It has been almost 50 years. I don't see the point in getting into tariff wars over things the US wasn't producing in half a century.
eta. The US alone accounts for over 1/3 of Nintendo's revenue, so you know they are puckering over there in Japan.
I might feel sorry for them if they actually made their consoles in Japan. If they are willing to offshore their manufacturing, they can do so in one of their biggest markets. Buy some cheap land in flyover America, build your consoles for the American market at zero tariffs

Calling it the switch 2 is retarded.

The land isn’t the real cost problem. It’s labor on the long run. There is no making this stuff at the prices they need to hit where American consumers will buy it with American labor making it.

Good, send your kids outside to play instead of glued to a screen.
