The big stage and the perceived legitimacy of the cause all came from the Obama White House.

The NFL is a major bread and circuses source for the establishment. Always has been. Distract and divide is what is playing out right now.

But I am amused at the lengths some people on this board will go to in order to place the blame on the "other" side (as if there is one).

Thank you for that.

The story line, they were out there for years. They made a big deal of NA during 9/11. Rating was very high so NFL jump on it. Now, some wash up QB started an ant American movement. NFL owners are allowing it. This must be stop or NFL will close shop. I still think after this year. Salary cap goes down. They will stand.

Here ya go but be my guest to get your news from a FB
meme

"What actually changed in 2009, according to NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy, was that (due to network timing issues) players had previously remained in their locker rooms during the playing of the national anthem for primetime games. After 2009, players appeared in the sidelines for the anthem during primetime games, just as they had been doing all along for Sunday afternoon games. (The distinction often went unnoticed by viewers, as network telecasts frequently didn’t air the pre-game anthem ceremonies.)"

Yep. All bullshite recruiting marketing.

I haven't looked into the accuracy of that, but OF COURSE the military wants to recruit people.

Thank god for that. But, I guess your ilk look down on the military and the flag and what it represents in general these days. At least the ones with a voice on tv do.

Where are you getting this shite?
Prime time games were the only exception in regards
to the NA and players in the locker room.

You are right, it is all marketing and recruiting. Unfortunately for the NFL, that cat is now out of the bag.

Yeah, how would we police the world otherwise?

Perhaps instead of guessing, you should learn the facts.

Spoiler Alert: Wanting better for America doesn't mean a person disrespects America anymore than wanting LSU to have a better football program means it hates LSU football.

I have heard this said more than a few times - and maybe my memory is just faulty, but it seems like it has been a tradition going back much longer than that.

Maybe there's a different protocol for Super Bowl, Playoff games, etc because I know this is part of what I've seen on TV watching sports for a long time.

Not really. Americans have the attention span and conviction of a garden gnome. Things will soon return to normal.

I went to almost every game for 4 years at LSU and I cannot remember for the life of me what we did about the anthem and where the teams were. I was also hammered though......

Since at least the early 70s, the Tiger Band pregame has played the National Anthem before forming the tunnel for the players to run on the field. So, for all that time, the LSU team has not been on the field, except for captains who have to be on the field for the coin toss. Usually the visiting team doesn't come out for the National Anthem either.

You're welcome.

What a hack you are. Do you take all of what you hear and just regurgitate it for talking points? Or do you have a thought of your own?

You're so diluted that you don't realize..

#1. The initial person and CAUSE for all of this DID in fact disrespect the flag and the country. If you have looked into it at all what his public stances are (a la cops depicted as pigs on his socks)... This is a spoiled brat child that has lead a "privileged life," as you call it. How embarrassing for you to have to learn all of that this way. NOW all the others joined in NOT because they agreed with him initially.. they just hate the President like you probably do for all the reasons you've been force fed. Not real, actual debatable reasons.

Kaepernick's cause was originally to get attention for his career. Sure, he does stuff in the community. Good! THAT is respectable. THAT is the time to preach. But let's be honest, he wasn't kneeling when he had a job. He had to do something to get his name in the conversation. Garner support. Kudos, it worked for a time.

When your country's flag and anthem are being sung, you respect it. That's a GIVEN. If you do not understand HOW what Kaepernick and Company did by kneeling disrespects the flag, then that's because you have a childish/narrow view on the world. It was disrespectful, because he meant disrespect and felt our country wasn't worth standing for. That's the bottom line.

#2. Your ilk will CHANGE a story at will to pretend the narrative is something other than what it truly is. And you're master-crafters at that. I give you that. But you won't convince people that live in the real world.
