NFL Players All Stayed in the Locker Room Until 2009
In 2009 the Department of Defense starting paying millions of taxpayer dollars for patriotism ceremonies before sporting events. It's a marketing campaign to get military recruits. Before this players were typically in the locker room before games started. How do you feel about millions of your taxpayer $$ going to NFL team owners and the NFL organization so they will do what they do?

Don't know if this is true, since no sauces. But, does the payment still take place?

frick the NFL. Having troops participate in pregame ceremonies and military flyovers should've been something the NFL was honored to have, not be a revenue source for them. All such spending should be eliminated

So if true the same person in charge when the NFL was given this contract invited BLM activists into the White House around the time Kaep started his protests.

LINK
quote:

He [Obama] continued, "We're not even close to being there yet, where we want to be. We're not at a point yet where communities of color feel confident that their police departments are serving them with dignity and respect and equality. And we're not at the point yet where police departments feel adequately supported at all levels."

The big stage and the perceived legitimacy of the cause all came from the Obama White House.

Bolded section sounded a lot like Kaep too. Describing the problem as a state of mind, something with no solution. Opening the door for unlimited uncertainty on both sides

But it wasn't until 2009 that players were mandated to be on the field for the song.

quote:

In 2015, a Senate report released by Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake poured cold water on some of the more heartwarming moments of patriotism seen in professional sports. The report found the Department of Defense had spent $6.8 million on what they called "paid patriotism" between 2012 and 2015. This money was spread out among 50 pro teams from the NFL, NBA, MLB, NASCAR, MLS and others. In exchange for the money, teams organized displays of national pride including flag presentations, the honoring of military members, reenlistment ceremonies, and even the most unassailable and uplifting of patriotic moments: surprise military homecomings. To be clear, plenty of teams also do, and have done, such things with no compensation.

some teams did and some didn't. In the playoffs many teams were present for the NA. NFL made a deal with the DOD, so the DOD paid for many of the big time half time displays, big flags and other things.

Are you saying the national anthem wasn't played at football games before 2009?
If so then you are seriously mistaken.

Not really sure your angle...

But only an idiot didn't know the US military wasn't full on recruiting.

They had a decade of ads during football games before 2009...two decades. You think paying for anthem attendance is a big deal compared to the constant commercials we got? This is some conspiracy? It's paid advertisement - it happens everywhere. Your taxpayer dollars paid more for advertisement than Budweiser in the 90's because they were so hurting for recruits.

It was Budweiser and the Marines...the Army - Be all you can be!

"Be all you can be!" That's all you saw during football games. Duh, target audience. It was non-stop in the 80's and 90's - trucks, beer and Army/Navy/Marines.

Only commercials you ever saw during a football game.

Sports are going to play the anthem regardless...

not all teams stayed in the locker room before NA before 09. either. Stories of Buddy Ryan teaching his players at philly how to stand for the NA and if they did not do it right they would be cut the next the day..

The argument is that players were out there for it or not. Not if it was sung or not. And it seems like the answer is only sometimes but I haven't seen anything definitive.

I went to almost every game for 4 years at LSU and I cannot remember for the life of me what we did about the anthem and where the teams were. I was also hammered though......

This makes the NFL bigger hypocrites

the NFL took their money. That makes them a sponsor

So why does Bose get protected from kaepernick wearing beats-by-dre and Uncle Sam isn't protected from players shitting on their paid advertisement?

Well, I've been going to ball games since I was 5 years old. Yes, most of them were junior high, high school and college. In fact, I've only been to 1 or 2 NFL games in person, but I have watched them on television.

I cannot recall seeing a game in person where the players were not on the sidelines during the anthem. So that covers the '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s and '10s for those leagues below the NFL.

It's an all volunteer force. I assume you're against conscription. So, is your objection ideological, financial or something more sinister?

No shite.

What is this revisionist history?

Montana and his 1989 Niners line-up for the National Anthem.

Don't bother. If it were true then it's even worse for the NFL

We didn't even do it until we got paid and we aggressively protect all of our sponsors except this one but it's nothing against the flag
