New York primary results show Democrats’ far-Left pivot

The remaking of the Democratic Party is well underway, as last night’s New York City primaries make clear.
quote:
While these results may be read as proof of the Democratic Socialists of America’s popularity, it remains to be seen whether such far-Left candidates could appeal to more moderate voters outside the major cities. Yet what they undoubtedly show is a burgeoning gap between mainstream Democrats and DSA-affiliated candidates.
quote:
In the winners of last night’s race, these beliefs are clear. Lander, Chevalier and Valdez all appeared in an advertisement with Zohran Mamdani during the New York Knicks’ playoff run, where they vowed to abolish ICE, “block billionaires from buying our elections”, and “stand up to bad landlords and greedy corporations”.
quote:
Chevalier, who is currently a PhD student who studies “how the US immigration system criminalizes Black immigrants from Latin America,” narrowly ousted Espaillat. The latter is the head of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, who originally entered the US as an illegal immigrant, in a heavily Hispanic district.
quote:
While Lander holds his cards close to his chest, Chevalier touts her ideology proudly. In an interview before the election, Chevalier refused to agree that murderers should be sent to prison. A day after October 7, Chevalier attended an anti-Israel rally where protesters burned an Israeli flag in Times Square. She defended her actions as advocacy for “human dignity”. Chevalier has also come under fire for social media posts where she described using the American flag as a rag towel and admonished black and Arab men for “fetishizing ugly colonizer women”. On election day, Chevalier stormed off a popular Dominican radio show after being questioned for an old social media post where she described the Dominican flag as “violent”.

The New Democrat position was best summed up by Mamdani ally Brian Romero at a Brooklyn campaign rally: “Abolish ICE, Free Palestine and tax the motherfricking rich!” Last night’s results are telling of the future direction of New York politics. Democrats are increasingly standing far-Left candidates that are even more radical in their beliefs and policy proposals than progressives. Given the popularity of Zohran Mamdani nationwide, it is reasonable to believe that these candidates who performed so strongly last night may be a bellwether for where the Democrats are moving ideologically.

I wonder what % of those who voted were foreign born. For Mamdani, it was 57%.

Might just pivot right of their edge of the bell shaped curve
Look, all this is, is a DNC ploy to make the current cast of Democratic elected Loons more palatable

The sad thing is that seemingly reasonable Democrats (so called traditional Liberal Democrats) did nothing but encourage these lunatics so they could retain power. Guys and gals like Schumer, and Gillibrand will be voted out of office next go 'round in favor of nuts like AOC.

The reasonable blue dogs were executed years ago.

I fear AOC will soon be "too conservative"

Been a few years but I seem to recall Rush commenting before that by allowing the radical left to hang around in the DNC that they've hitched themselves to an anchor that will drag them all the way to the bottom. Now the radical elements of the party won't permit democrats to move a millimeter back to center so they have no choice but to double down on the communist faction.

The state of New York will have to bail them out.
They've already had to once. It'll happen more.
And Mamdani nor his bankrupting policies will ever be criticized by the democrats.
F them all.

Wasn't that long ago, I believe it was SFP who said rest assured after Mamdani that the Dem Party would tack to the center for the midterms.

Maximilien Robespierre FAFO. Max wasn't an appeaser, though. He was an instigator.

The result of a successful narrative.
For ten years, the propaganda and gaslighting has been, "bLuMpF aNd MaGa aRe cReAtiNg aN aUtHoRiTaRiAn-RiGhT fAsCiSt StAtE" when, in fact, Trump merely represents a shift back to moderate '90s political and social norms.
You don't know how many times I've reluctantly and quietly wished that an actual authoritarian-Right regime would rise to power in the US, just to reset the Overton Window. But instead, a fascist, alt-Left ideology will rise and tilt the Window even farther off the Left side of the map.
And the GOPe is to blame. When they have the power to enact real change, they go full-Establishment instead and piss away the golden opportunities. Every. Single. Time. They want this chaos, division and conflict. They thrive on it and it keeps them in power.

Actually AOC will be replaced for being 'too centrist' because as far as I know -- she has not called for Trump voters to be tossed off cliffs (yet).
