You wrote all that and didn’t even come close to a decent point. What do you want a 2nd grader to do? How does a poor kid with no money eat? Get a job?

It's been awhile, but when my son was in elementary the school had free for all breakfasts. A cooler showed up with as many breakfasts as there were students. The breakfast food was highly processed crap.
So food showed up and and they forced him to eat it? I’m not understanding the no opt out. Was there a feeding room in the back IRA hunger strike style?

How is a mother a child's "social safety net??"

No outside food on school premises unless it's given by the school. None of it is gonna be remotely healthy.
Never heard of this. Where is this a thing?

2nd graders aren't turning down donut sticks and sour candied raisins.
I cooked my boy breakfast every morning, but if I wasn't volunteering in the room I'm sure he ate the sweet treats despite having a hearty at home breakfast. I volunteered most mornings.

It’s not. But I think the part you’re struggling with it’s what should we do if it doesn't work out that way and the kid doesn’t have a meal. “Tough shite” just doesn’t cut it for me personally when it comes to kids.
“Starving hungry kids is actually good policy and they’re better off, that forces people who are already shitty parents to stop being shitty parents. What could go wrong?”
Our tax dollars go to a lot of stupid things, the marginal cost of meals provided by public schools is (relatively speaking) miniscule. I’m just not going to be upset about it.
But I get it, you think it’s socialism and it’s a slippery slope to a million other things.

Got it. So your kids lack of impulse control means other kids should go hungry.

do you want to take another swing before I reply?

I’m in school traffic after dropping my kids off at a private daycare I pay for, after feeding my kids a healthy breakfast. Magically, none of which cost the taxpayers a single cent.

because it clearly is dumb dumb.
First it’s lunches.
Now it’s apparently breakfast and lunch.
Why not dinner?
Kids need clothes to go to school? Let’s pick up that check too.
Kids need school supplies and backpacks for school? Let’s pick up that check too
Kids need to be fed during the summer and holidays? Let’s pick up that check.

Will EBT be adjusted to reflect that the dependents are already receiving 2 meals per day outside the home?
Posted on 8/19/25 at 8:17 am to Smeg
"That's how we set up our kids up for success."
No, that's how you train generations to be dependent on the government.

No, I’m going to complain about any and all social safety net provided by American taxpayers.
I, like other true patriots, won't rest until every cent of our tax dollars goes exclusively to bombing Russians and Palestinians. Thank you for fighting the good fight alongside me, comrade!

no, no they don’t. My family buys our food out of our bank account from H-E-B.

No, I will let you answer the question.
My Father worked 60+ hours a week and my Mother worked 40+ hours a week to put me through a private school. They had to buy a lunch plan out of pocket, non tax payer funded. They worked and saved money before having me and my brothers. None of which was via government funded social safety nets.
My wife and I also both work. We are putting our kids through private school. We pay for that. Not anyone else. We were financially comfortable before bringing children into the world and just expecting someone else to pay for it.
This concept is called responsibility.

Again, wrong.
Check my post history. I don’t want any involvement with wars across the world. frick Ukraine. frick Israel. I’m an American chauvinist.

Why don't we expand this logic in the opposite direction? Why are we giving kids "free" education? Why do my taxes have to pay for their teachers? If they want education their parents can pay for it privately. Abolish public education?

The farms that grow your food are subsidized.
The bank you use is subsidized.
The HEB you go to is subsidized.
All by tax payers. You’re welcome.

I just really don't understand how somebody convinced the Liberals to use taxpayer dollars to feed the children of dentists program managers and lawyers Etc just to avoid supposedly embarrassing the other kids by checking qualifications.
It's redistribution of wealth. Those high-earners are the ones paying a bulk of the taxes. Suppose the district's cost on a meal is $2.00. Logic says that they should sell it for $2.00. However, if you make it "free" and transfer the cost to the taxpayers, those paying more taxes are paying more for their kid's lunch because they're not only paying for THEIR kid's lunch, but his lower income classmate's as well.

A fair rebuttal, but not a very well thought out one.
Public school is an investment we all make because an uneducated population is a hell of a lot more expensive to deal with than funding schools. Higher crime, higher poverty, lower innovation, weaker economy—all the fun stuff.
This is not the same as covering every want, need, and remote desire by deadbeat parents who completely rely on social safety nets for every aspect of raising children. A line has to be drawn somewhere (well, for me…apparently not for some of you)

maybe so, but there’s nothing I nor anyone else can do about that. But I pay for my groceries and am not ringing it up on EBT.

Let’s start that plantation mentality when they’re young.
