I'm not paying to read the article - but what is that statistic over the last 10 years? Is this an outlier or just normal?

No.
Did you not have a high school job?

Working a shitty job in high school or college will teach you the importance of education real quick.
My first job was at an Asian buffet. I mean I was already going to college but it was an interesting experience. Lots of asian women hostesses who could barely speak english (other than one who went to Barbe). I worked at the grill with a bunch of grown men out on work release for serious felonies. And the kitchen was all Mexicans except this one random guy from Brazil and the asian guy who ran it.

It took me 4 months to find a job after graduation. Not that big a deal looking back.

I mean most want the salary of a 15 year employee right out of college, with no real world experience. That's one issue.

People selling a product don't typically go out of their way to tell potential customers that their product is shite.
You got me there.
I worked two years in a hotel. It was atrocious. Plus, it would have been a lot more beneficial in my career if I just started working at a hotel as oppose to going to college.
I was working with one of my former teachers at said hotel. He told me, after graduation, that the vast majority of hotels are bought and sold every two years. Afterwards, the new owners bring in their own GM, director or sales, etc. If oyu were gunning for a promotion, you were out of luck. This would have been really nice to know in class or when I met with an advisor about choosing a major.
Lets call it for what it is, a full blown scam.

Unfortunately college is becoming a scam.

One other thing that many college graduates can do is get a trade or open a trade based business. You can open an electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc. business. These jobs are everywhere. Men need to learn that much of college majors are a scam. Not all, but many.

my son has to complete a summer internship...in sports management
At LSU that’s what half the athletes are majoring in Sports Administration. It’s the major that they gravitate towards to because it’s easy and not demanding. These guys are athletes that are very busy so I understand. Many of the football and basketball players come from poor academic backgrounds and gravitate towards this major.

Just going by LSU, my son was part of his company team interviewing on campus a month or so ago, and the number of May graduates in Chemical Engineering is about a third of when he graduated just 6 years ago. Last May, the Environmental Engineering program had its fewest number of graduates since it started 25 years ago.
There are still a LOT of the graduates in the cited statistics with worthless degrees, they’d have been better served by going to a trade school or through a 2 year PTEC program. There are shortages, MAJOR shortages, in all the crafts-welders, fitters, heavy equipment operators, analyzer techs, lab techs, etc.
