Crime stats are down because investigations of crimes are down. Crimes are likely up.

No, they have not.

From a restaurant in N.O. my wife and I went to last year for our anniversary.

ARRIVAL AND PARKING

We strongly advise guests to arrive by Uber or taxi. If you do, you won’t have to worry about parking, ticketing, any issues with car break-ins (a sad reality in our city) and you will be able to enjoy as much wine to your heart’s content with no worries.

What part of the city do you live in and what crime have you experienced there?

The FBI. They changed their reporting system some years ago and many cities haven't caught up. Crimes are being under reported.

If it is just this task force? Probably. We don't know how big this task force is, but if they're doing that beyond what other police are doing? Yea, that's probably a decent number.

I'd also add that people arrested by Troop NOLA aren't handled by the Orleans Parish DA.

We need to do something similar in Baton Rouge and Shreveport.

Jeff Landry says Hold My Beer. It's the LSP doing the work in NOLA, so I take all the credit.

I suspect Staties being in the FQ/CBD has helped also

Bingo!

Remember the often lauded "immigrants commit less crimes than Americans". Well since it is against their "rights" to designate a criminal as an illegal, that would tend to remove them from the stats.

In this case they probably just made assault with a deadly weapon a misdemeanor so violent crime is down. I remember chicago changed car jacking with a gun to illegal trespassing or some nonsense

He wants to up ICE here to tackle the foreign gangs like they did in Florida.

But I’m guessing the OP will have a problem with that.

I was there for Mardi Gras and it just felt palpably safer than I can ever remember. Noticeable police presence and even some national guard type of guys/equipment also.

That’s in the touristy parts. They couldn’t give two shits about the surrounding areas like East NOLA.

Targeting criminals works since over 70% of homicides are criminals killing other criminals.

The crimes you can't write off are down.

Remove the New Years terrorist attack, and New Orleans has 21 murders through 130 days. Many years New Orleans was averaging a murder a day, a few years exceeding 400 murders in a year.

Homicides were down 38% and carjackings were down 49% in 2024.
