I spent a lot of time at WSMR when I was working with the Military. Your description is very accurate of the cities, and the people. The mountains around WSMR can provide some gorgeous sunsets. Cloudcroft is still one of my favorite getaway vacation spots !

Unfortunately, the counties that harvest Santa Fe and Albuquerque in the North, and Las Cruses, hold the population centers and are very leftist. Especially up around Santa Fe, where they hate the oil & gas industry, yet beg for the tax dollars generated by industry. It funds K-12 education across the entire state.

Starting like two years ago, pissing on the ground in New Mexico is an environmental incident.

The big urban areas: Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, they’re all extremely liberal. Very artsy, pro drugs, pro crime, pro illegal immigration.

Can confirm. Been there many times to work at Sandia and Los Alamos. Albuquerque has a great hot dog stand. Hound dog, or something. The area around the university is a quirky kind of weird. Sante Fe is a bit snobby, but the real people are really cool and pretty conservative. I do miss coming home with the Elk meat a woman at the lab used turn me on to.

THIS!

It was sad. We were in the area for a family vacation last month. We had hit the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion, etc. etc. We were covering a lot of national parks and sites in the area. It was a distinct difference when we crossed into New Mexico. The roads were terrible, and there were panhandlers at all of the gas stations. I couldn't wait to get out.

Very sad, because those parts of Arizoa, Utah, and Colorado (minus Durango, but that's another story), were beautiful, and very enjoyable.

So I'm really not surprised that its a blue state... it sure appeared that way.

I haven't seen it, but I heard tell that in New Mexico they don't have grass in their front yard. They have gravel painted green.

I live in this shite hole. But only for 7 more days. Bought a place in Ponchatoula on 2 acres. I've been here 24 years and I'm done. The great skiing and mountain biking just ain't enough to make up for the crime, poor education and lagging economy. Also. DWI capital of the country. If I can figure out how to post a pic from my cell phone I'll show you some of the frickery that's happening with our elections here. While voting at my local voting precinct last Saturday...maintenance workers were repairing a hole in the CEILING where an intruDer broke in on the Friday night before. Nothing to see here...
I have a hilarious picture of bewildered voters staring up at the gaping hole.

If I knew how I would invite you over to our place, in "Old Millville", (Ponchatoula), to sit by the woodstove in the back shop, or the pit on the back patio. We like fire.

My oldest son is coming in from New Zealand, with his very British wife, for a month's stay. He is a 40-year-old Civil Engineer and my 35 year old son will be here too.

Yes indeed baw. Your hospitality is a welcome change. Been here 24 years. Wife and I can count the friends we made here on 1 hand. Native New Mexicans are not a friendly bunch. Our closest friends here are also from out of state. We are LSU alumni. Heading home to be with more like minded people with a rich culture that doesn't include meth.

Excellent! We have lots of friends and would welcome you and your family. If we can figure a way, let's do it!

I ain't scared of sharing my info here.

Let me know!

ETA; When you get here, make a post and I'll give you street address, maybe? Or I send you to my youngest at Dixie RV, with a password? This could be fun. He met Mad Dog Mattis, among others, in his capacity there.

My sister n law lives in Albuquerque, and parts of the state, like Santa Fe are really nice. Other parts of the state are ran down towns that look like old Mexico.

The shift from red to blue seems almost unnatural.
